Like it says. I have a kimber custom 2, and a cdp ultra carry 2. How will they handle +p ammo. I assume they will just fine, but they are new and I don't want to hurt them. I know there are a lot on here with more knowledge than mine. SHARE WITH ME YOUR WISDOM!

Never had a 1911, but the mettalurgy is so much better in the new guns than it was even 30 years ago. It will probably handle it, but I think I'd put one of those slide buffers in the gun if I was going to shoot souped-up ammo in it. :twocents:

I've ran a bunch of +p through my Kimberly custom II 45acp without a problem.

I just bought some Buffalo Bore +P ammo for my Kimber Custom II and they recommend a 4 to 6lb heavier recoil spring if you plan on shooting a lot of it. So I ordered a 22lb recoil spring. My Kimber came with a 16lb.

I also agree with heardoggydoggy. Get some recoil buffers. They're cheap. I ordered some when I ordered the new spring and I think the grand total before shipping was $12.

Thanks guys for the info. I will get a new spring!

.45ACP operates at a much lower pressure than pistol cartridges that were developed later. I think it produces at least 10,000 PSI less than a 9MM.
I always wondered if modern .45ACP pistols were built to those original specs, or if could handle much higher pressures, similar to the newer loads.

9mm or 45acp pressures asside, Both guns will handle ammo within Sami specs.
Not that they can't handle it, but I personally wouldn't run a steady diet of +p through any aluminum framed short barreled semi auto like the CDP Ultra. Heavier loads will wear more on all stress points. Including your wrist. Target practice is usually fired with lesser loads. I would leave the +P's to self defense. Wilson combat makes an assortment of springs that will reduce the slide speed/recoil while cycling +P ammo.
As for the Custom II, it is a full steel gun and will handle the +P without issue. Still, hotter loads will wear more. I have 30,000+ rounds through my Custom II of target ammo and a good amount of hot bowling pin fodder through it and it shows no abnormal wear and tear. Still, when I run the hot loads, I do use a 23 pound recoil spring and shock buffer to stop the battering. With Bullseye/target loads I use a 12 pound spring.

:yeah: I was just going to say I don't see much need for a ton of practice with +P
Great info there though Jack

:yeah:
I've run +p thru steel 1911's and wished I hadn't.
I have some if you want to buy it.
Seriously.
