hehe, goofy looking thing.
I always thought these guys migrated south, but have seen some pics recently of them on the ice. Hmmmm.

They aren't too spooky at the duck pond where people feed the ducks.  400mm f5.6 + 1.4 tamron teleconverter (560mm).

I always thought these guys migrated south, but have seen some pics recently of them on the ice. Hmmmm.

They are here on the Westside year around.  They will stay as long as they can find food in ponds or fields.

It was maybe 15 feet away in a tree.  Braced handheld shot.

I thinkd the trick is to lay on your back with a frog in your mouth and then have the camera ready.  You have to be quick when big bird snatches the frog out of your mouth.

 :chuckle:  You could hold a mouse by the tail with your teeth, might give you more time.
