Title: Fred Bear Lights Out!
Post by: Bscman on September 22, 2008, 03:54:39 PM
Just picked up my new Fred Bear Lights Out!

It's the 70lb, 29" Draw version...which suits me perfectly right out of the box.  :IBCOOL:
Can you tell I'm a bit excited?

My current bow is an old PSE Nova, from back when they had round wheel "cams."
It is slow and clunky compared to this new technology! This one should put me about 45fps+ faster than my old bow with the same weight arrows...but I'm upgrading to carbon, so this thing is gunna SMOKE compared to me old one.

Will be outfitted with a Truglo 4-pin sight and the trusty Whisker Biscuit QS I've been using for years (with a new insert). Still looking for the *right* quiver, though (4 or 5 arrow). Will order some Carbon Express arrows w/ blazers some time this week.

I also ordered a spool of Flo. Orage D-loop material (First time shooting with a loop!) and a spool of nock point thread to tie my own nocks instead of those darn brass things. I also plant to tie in my own peep.

Best of all?
I got it for $263, NEW!!! Retail is $330 (BARE)!!!  :chuckle:

Pics:
(Dollar bill is just there to depict size...it feels like a toy at 30" ATA!)

I almost bought a truth2 but liked the diamond black ice too much to pass it up.

Looks like it'll be a great set up! Should spit em out there pretty good compared to the Nova.

From Granpawrichard at Joe's sports in Mount Vernon, I believe.

From Granpawrichard at Joe's sports in Mount Vernon, I believe.

Yes, they were on sale at joes for 20% off a couple weeks back.

Just an UPDATE...I took it to the range for the first time last night.
Unbelievable bow for the price. Very quiet, with very little hand shock.
IIRC, it's rated about 15fps slower than the truth 2, but feels just as good otherwise. I definitely couldn't see paying twice the price for the truth 2 after having shot this one. 300 IBO is plenty for me...

My buddy has a Bowtech Tomkat that is outfitted with bowjax on the cables, string, cable guide, limbs, and stabilizer...and he was still commenting on how quiet my bow is compared to his...and I have NOTHING on mine but the factory string damper.

I'm one happy bow hunter.  ;)

Glad it is working out for you!
I really like them as well, but opted for the Martin Bengal at the time since the prices were comparable when I bought mine and it is rated @318.  Thinking I might pick one up here in a bit as a backup.

I believe you can get modules from 31" down to 25" and you can go in 1/2" increments above and below for each module....so down to 24.5"

I'd call to confirm, though.

Dekuma, the Bengal is a nice bow.
I shot a 60lb model at sportsman's a couple weeks ago. I couldn't get over the riser design and amount of reflex it had. I couldn't get comfortable with it. It is a very sweet shooting bow, though...and has a bit smoother draw than my lights out!
