Title: Elk hunting
Post by: WonkyWapiti on September 22, 2008, 05:38:02 PM: I got to wondering after replaying the last two weeks of my bowhunting season what works best for others? In the four years I have been bowhunting I have yet to take an elk but have called in some bulls with bugling and cow calls. I'd like to see what works for everyone.

Post by: boneaddict on September 22, 2008, 05:40:20 PM: I added one just because I have used it before. I suppose ambush could be hybrid of spot and stalk and or stand, but basically I mean getting in front of them on the move.

Post by: miah on September 24, 2008, 07:18:48 PM: I've been hearing of a lot of people getting them this year from stands but my only thing is,how, and where, what are they using for attractants? or just water holes I don't know, but I've hunted my arse off the last 5 years and still have yet to even come close.

I have nearly surpassed the WA stats of 1 for every 7 years hunted. Really frustrating for me.

Mainly for me its luck, or other hunters pushing them to you :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:. I had that happen this year but i missed him :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:

I run with a day pack and can be out for days with out a tent or sleeping bag in any types of weather mostly practicing survival tactics along the way...

I have only taken one elk and that was with spot and stalk.......Have used stand and it has worked out well too.........also had dumbluck ecountering them walking right up on me......

I MEAN...

REALLY FRESH...

Then you look up and 5-10 yards in front of you are the elk you've been following looking over their shoulders...

I don't really know who’s more surprised...

Them for not realizing a predator is following and almost on them...

Or me because I almost had my face up their butts like some love smitten bull pushing them along with his nose... ;)
