Title: The diference between "The Disc Extreme" and the "Mountaineer" by Knight
Post by: AlwaysFishn on February 01, 2013, 07:09:04 AM
Have been lurking on site for awhile introduced by another member "Black Lab".

I have been debating with myself back and forth between the "The Disc Extreme" and or "The Mountaineer" the difference between the two is what? Is it that  "The Mountaineer" has a Stainless Steel barrel am I seeing that right? I wish there was a place to shoot a rifle before you buy. I know there is a couple dollars difference but if one will outlast the other by all means why not?.

At this point there is not a Western kit available for the Mountaineer, might be in the near future.  The barrel is an inch longer, the bare primer bolt is also a bit different in that you drop the prime into some rails on the nose of the bolt.  The both shoot about the same.  The Mountaineer is also built to tighter tolerances.

Both the DISC Extreme and the Mountaineer are stainless...

Thank you Sabotloader,
I called Knight rifles earlier today talked to a guy there got a good answered as to what I was wondering too. I will be purchasing a Disc Extreme real soon. :IBCOOL: I am looking forward to shooting something different with more accurateness than what I had this year. My hunting partner and I kept saying I couldn't hit the broadside of the barn if I wanted too. I have read your other post's about peep sites. I am more than likely going to be putting one em on this one.

OK.. but let me throw you a curve ball! For the most part i shoot Knight DISC Extremes also and they are excellent rifles - you get one you will like it.... BUTTTT, I am kinda working on a deal with Knight to offer possibly 2 other PacNorthWest legal rifles.  One may be a less money than the DISC and further down the road before it might be available and one more expensive but would make and excellent mountain rifle.

Go to the Knight site and look at the 6 pound Knight Mountaineer Ultra Lite. I have discussed with them the possibilty of putting open sights on that rifle.  There is some what of a concern because the barrel has been heavily contured and is almost as thin as a center fire barrel at the muzzle.  But they have been putting front sights on CF barrels for years.  Anyway I think Knight recognizes the potential of the rifle in the PacNorthWest and really is looking into the suggestions recieved.  We all should or might know shortly...

Or you could just buy the disk extreme. :chuckle:

Has anyone on this forum bought a disk extreme and regretted it?   :tinfoil:

Hopefully this weekend if the rains stop.

Tom sent me a new Knight Vison to play with... Actually he wants me to drill the BP out and install a Lehigh vent liner.

He just had some back surgery - so he is not in a hurry to get it back. + I want to see if I can make it shoot #11 caps.  That might be really interesting.

I do not think you can blame all four of dem Knights on me... I remember helping on one!
