I know I order a bunch of stuff once the seasons over. It's a way to keep the dream going and avoid the harsh reality that its over.
Good looking calls. Single or double?
-
Those are sexy man, wish I had money to pick up a call. Id learn to duck hunt just for the beautiful craftsmanship. Coming from a guy who also loves to work with wood.
You ever made calls with bloodwood or purple heart? Purple heart is virtually indestructible its so dense.
-
Two Open water doubles and one open water single.
I use Purple Heart quite a bit. It always makes me mad though because no matter how fine I sand it the pores always show unless I use multiple coats of finish.

I love the way it surfaces after a good 3-5 wett sandings with 1000 grain. I dont even bother using polyurethane on it.
Im trying to upload some of my projects but the websites being stubborn.
Might have to RESIZE them holdon buddy. Love to see what you think of them.

For as much as I knew and as quick as I could identify almost every species of wood its amazing how much I forgot. I havent crafted anything In about 4 years. I miss it soo much. Could easily spend 10 hour days in the woodshop and never get tired of it.
-
$32 for the calls shown. Price goes up depending on the cost of wood.

Smossy, you are right about Purple Heart, did you know that it is toxic? Machines nice and looks cool, but can affect you in dust form or as in a splinter.
Those calls pictured look awesome!

Yeah, My mentor "Who taught me everything I know"a man who went by the name "Mumbles" haha told me to be careful with that and aromatic red ceder as to they can lead to extremely bad infections. Ill try to get some photos of a small box I made for a friend If I ever get over there. Maybe Ill shoot him a text and ask for a pic. But Im no longer going to post in here as to I dont want problems or people thinking Im trying to hijack the thread from Phelps amazing craftsmanship! Great work man!

Are those acrylic inserts???? Or do you have the option for one?
-
They are polycarbonate "Echo" Inserts. You are basically saving $20 on an Echo call. I build mine on a slightly shorter barrel so they are easier to blow.
-
Do you have plans to do any wood inserts? And/or play with different guts?
-
I have been playing around with another companies guts and gutserts and they are going to be an option soon.
I would love to make some custom wood inserts out of African black wood, cocobolo, or some of the fancy exotics. The only downside is the time required. I might order a duck call jig and start to play around with it.

Let me know if you do, I will take one of your first wood insert calls. Blackwood, coco, flamed hedge and anything else thats wood in color works for me.

Spalted zebrawood. Would make a great camouflage color.

The two duck calls I picked up from you this last year worked well during the season. Thanks for a good product...
