Hi all, I am looking to get a new small engine to use as a pot puller for the upcoming shrimp/crabbing seasons. I was wondering what the best gear reduction ratio is, 2:1, 6:1 etc. Also, if I purchase a horizontal drive engine with the gear reduction assembly preinstalled is it as simple as mounting the capstan to the shaft of the engine? I have been shopping both electric and gas options. I used a 3.5 B&S motor last year but it was old and unreliable. I can't recall the specs on that engine now. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
