So my hunting partner and I are getting ready to put our deposit down to go on a moose flat hunt in 2014 in Alaska. We are using Larry Barletts hunt planning service. I have talked to a couple guys on here who have had great things to say about Larry. Does anybody else have any experiance with him any advice to offer while we are in the planning phase of this hunt?

Hey Joe, pm teacherman, he lives in alaska following the dream, hunting, fishing, trapping, the works. Not sure if he is familiar with the guide but has friends doing float trips all the time and may be able to offer some good advise.

I have use Larry Bartlett for one of my moose hunts on the Woods River. Had a great trip. I am renting one of his rafts to do a float in the Brooks range this summer. Just enjoy your trip I love all the ones I have been on, it's a great experience. Take lots of pictures!!

I've used Larry's service's on the last 2 DIY moose/caribou combination float hunt's (2004 and 2010) and was satisfied with service's provided. Be up front with him on your physical capabilities! We were. We wanted tough if tough gave us better odd's and tough we got. A 3 mile "Tundra Trek" to the airdrop location, 300yd. gear and rafts pack to the stream, 15 miles of skinny water (luckily water was a bit high and we blew thru in 2 days and didn't have to portage or drag much), then 40 miles of logjams and sweepers, 10 days of hauling 100+ pound loads of meat twice a day from river to nighttime meat cache for camp make and break, then a high bank haulout at the pickup point pushed the limits of this 51 year old. My right hip still aches a bit when I work it too much. I hope to do it all over again in a year or 2! :) Have fun!

Well that didn't quite work out right. Only posted 1 photo. Try again.

That was the 2010 hunt. Don't have any digital photos of the 2004 hunt but, it was good too.

Can I ask what a trip like that runs with airfare etc...? I'm saving a bit because my 18 points will never be drawn in Washington unless I put a deposit down to go to AK. And either way I'm hunting a moose before 2015.
Just need to know how much it truly should cost not just the outfitter estimates.

Total cost came out to about $5.50 a day for three years. ;) My first trip back in '95 I took a 12" piece of 4" PVC, glued a cap on each end, jigsawed a slot in one end and proceeded to stuff extra money into it until I had enough to go. The reason I glued the caps on was that I knew if I could easily get to the money I'd never save enough. Been to Alaska hunting 6 times now but, I don't need to stuff money into a "can" to save for my trips now.

I haven't used Larry's service but I have talked to him several times and I think he is definitely a stand-up guy.
I also have one of his rafts (levitator) on the way here right now. He gave me a good deal on it and I feel it was more economical to buy it vs. rent it.
I'm going on a 15 day moose/caribou float trip in the Brooks this September. :)

I can't speak for others but just my bushflight this year is $4300, and that is the going rate for where I am going.
I'll be 10K into my trip by the time I am home.
God I hope my wife doesn't see this ;)

I am including the price of a raft, but I wouldnt have bought it if it wasn't for this trip. So it counts :)

I know of Larry through a couple Alaskan hunting sites, including his own, Pristine Ventures. http://www.pristineventures.com/home.html (http://www.pristineventures.com/home.html)
Larry has a very good reputation.
