i am looking for a 357 pistol. dont want to spend money like the python but want a reliable gun. one reason is i have a lot of 38 sp bullets and a snub nosed s&w gun. looking for a 4+ inch barrel. any ideas? would luv a 41 or 44 but a bit big. thanks, mike w

recommend offhand ruger gp100, and the smith k or L frames (k frames like model 19 and 66, are out of production, but you'll see used ones) the L frame is the 686 and 686p (7shot version)... the older predecesor to the ruger GP100 is the old security six by ruger, out of production, but good gun if you stumble across one.. the rugers are easier to take apart should you ever get water down in it, etc, but the smiths generally have a better factory trigger pull, and I would recommend stainless steel just for the ease of maintenance and durability compared to blued..

there's a 586 (blued version of a 686) in a 6" in the classifieds..

I'd recommend the GP 100 as well. Used to shoot one in 6" stainless with a full underlug and a custom trigger job. Tack driver all day long with everything from target to hunting loads. I don't think we ever shot a factory load through it. I am going to buy another one someday. :twocents:

i've owned a couple of the taurus revolver, I wouldnt pay as much as I would for a ruger or smith, but good guns for the price, and the warranty service is lifetime of the gun, not original owner..

A real sleeper is the S&W Model 13, 4" heavy barrel. You can find quite a few police turn in at a reasonable price. They are a fixed sight gun but very reliable. I used one for years for bowling pin shoots wiith 200gr RN made for the 38-200 S&W/35 Rem and it worke well. Once I got an accurate 45 I had adjustable sights installed on the 13 and it was my hunting gun for many years. Eye surgery made shooting open sight impossible so sold all my handguns.

Taurus warrenty is good! I had to use it on a 44mag. It could NOT handle the handloads like my Super Redhawks. Lock up solid.
Would buy one for standard loads for the women or the like, but not me.

The GP 100 is blast to shoot. I put hi viz sites on mine and love it. Comfortable, reliable, and accurate. I also have a Taurus hammerless 357 mag snub nose. It's my carry gun. For the money no complaint's it go's bang. Though if I did ever complain, I'd lighten up the trigger :twocents:

You should be able to adjust the hammer ,trigger tension.
I have done it on my wife's 605
