Purest caruba you can find....only takes a dab. Also, cut up a dryer sheet and throw it in the mix.

After, the little but of stuff in the primer pocket doesn't affect anything and will keep the walnut media clogging up the primer pockets.

I use Walnut media that I buy aHarborur Freight.  You don't need to add anything else but if you want to you could ad some Nufinish, a cap full or so and let the tumbler run for 15 minutes or so.

I tumble my brass before I do anything, for a couple hours to clean any grit off the brass so I don't scratch my dies.  Then resize/deprime and tumble again for a few hours to get the lube off.  This step not needed with Carbide pistol dies, as no lube is needed.  Reprime, and reload.  I had a problem with the walnut clogging the primer pockets and flash holes when I used small granule walnut, but seldom have a problem since I switched to larger grain walnut.  Any cleaner-type car polish works.  You need the abrasive that is in it.  I used some old "Swirl Remover" to rejuvenate my walnut a while back...

got to the pet store and buy lizard bedding its just walnut ground up.  They even sell corncob ground up.  Its really cheap for a lot!  Then add a cap full of car wax.  perfect shine every time!

I tumble before depriming. Use cob/walnut mix with Dillon polish, although most any liquid car polish will suffice.

+1 on adding a cut up dryer sheet to the mix, after the car polish has mixed with the media well enough. The dryer sheets REALLY cut down on the dust / lead (which is from the spent primers).

Also use Nitril gloves when handling the cases since I take them out 1 by 1 & inspect them. Always wash hands & face after the process.

Thinking about buying SS media & a Thumblers rotational polisher...reduce dust factor...ya ya...I like shiney brass  :dunno: ;)

Heck I have been reloading since I was 8 and I never knew the dryer sheet deal. Learned something new and am going to have to give it a shot.

Yup, dryer sheets = less mess...wait until you see how dirty they get  :o

I use "used" dryer sheets cut into strips. Neet trick!

I use a mix of corncob and walnut and tumble before depriming. I hate cleaning media out of the primer pockets.

I've never heard of the dryer sheet trick either. Now my next batch out of the tumbler will be mountain spring fresh! :chuckle:

A little clarification on the dryer sheets...

I do use previously used dryer sheets, cut them into smaller squares, and then poke them into the media in different places to keep them spread out.

You can use new ones if you like but seems like a waste to me  :dunno: although maybe if you were to use certain scented sheets that might be considered an attractant by the WDFW  :chuckle:  :dunno: :chuckle:

I have used new dryer sheets but I really didn't see any huge different with/without them.  The walnut media I get from harbor freight is pretty chunky though, maybe it doesn't give off a lot of dust because I don't have a lot of dust in my tumbler.  Maybe it works better with corn cob media, I used it a couple of times and it pulverized more than walnut.

De-prime then into the ultra-sonic cleaner.   No more tumbling for me.

The pet store is the place to buy your media. Fill the cement mixer and throw the media out after it looks remotely dirty since its so cheap. I too am going to the stainless pin media.....as soon as I find a deal on pins

I've washed in hot soapy water and then dried before the first tumble.  Then deprimed then tumble for shine.  But jonesin' for an ultrasonic because they clean inside of brass so well.  Better than my steel wool on a stick on the drill anyways.

They tell me that those ultrasonic cleaners even get the crud out of the primer pockets.  That alone would be something to see!

That looks like good stuff hc.  Still trying to get my mind to believe it won't work harden brass, though.

I have been through a few custom reloader shops and they used cement mixers with the pins. There isn't much more impact to the case than with cob or nuts, the pins just don't hold dirt and fit in every nook and cranny.
