Title: MONTANA hunt reg questions
Post by: BIGMIKE on February 27, 2013, 07:51:24 AM
Hello fellas,

I have 3 questions that I cant seem to find a solid answer to so I need someone in here that's been hunting the Big Sky Country and knows the reg for non-resident. Thansks to you REG SMART HUNTER!

1. If I get drawn for Archery Elk and Deer tag but did not kill any, can I use the same tag for Rifle Season?

2. Is there a way to split a group applications? like 2 of my buddies are archers and will be going after elk but 3 of them are going after mule deer during the rut later on. Can I apply with 2 groups or do I have to apply as an individual then just hunt both season?

3. What are the chances of me drawing an archery elk tag in Montana?

1.  Yes
2.  If you're planning on hunting both elk and deer, you need to apply for the deer/elk combo tag; either as a group or individual, your choice.
3.  No weapon's choice for your tag; you can hunt bow, muzzleloader or modern seasons if you get drawn.  Lately odds have been 100% for getting drawn as they've had tags available after the drawing.  - because of the price and wolf problems!

The odds of drawing are higher for those that apply Big Game Combo than those that only apply for Deer Combo. Of course the tags are much more money this way but let's say your partners that only want to hunt deer have a elk tag they are not intending on using. Once they have their combo tags they can then apply for a LE elk permit. If they don't draw they can turn their combo tags back in, Montana will issue them a Deer Combo tag and refund them the elk portion $ back. ;)
