Title: Rangefinder?
Post by: cwuhunter on February 28, 2013, 11:57:16 AM
has been talked about before im sure, but need help deciding on a rangefinder. sent back my arc 1000, was terrible, now need a new one. cant decide on the vortex ranger, or maybe stepping up to a swaro? I need it to range trees at 800 yards, and have the angle compensator. I know the swaro or leica, zeiss don't have that, so what are your thoughts on the ranger 1000? consistent readings of 7-800 yards, one time button push?

Personally after looking through the different rangefinders and reading reviews I am going leica.  Personally I am going the 1600 route but I think the other versions are as good.  They are very small and very easy to use and great reviews.

If you spend the money go leica. With Swaroski you are buying the name. Great glass but is it a great range finder? Never used on so I don't know. I know their scopes are not durable. I know a friend that bought a zeiss and it was 50 yds of of the leupold, leica, and nikon in our elk camp. I have never used the vortex but I have heard good things about them.

I'm no expert, but I think I've used or owned most of the laser rangefinders out there.  (At least the ones I could afford...Vectonix are quite a ways out of my price range).

I've got a Leica 1600 right now that I'm VERY pleased with.  It will range way out past 1600 if you can find a rock that is facing you, which is farther than I can shoot anyway.  Furthest I got a reading this past weekend while shooting Rock Chucks was just over 2100yds.

Currently saving my pennies for the G-7 rangefinder.  After I get that one, (depending on how well it performs of course), I'll probably have a nice Leica 1600 for sale.
