I am proud to announce the wildlife commission listened to a couple of everyday sportsmen Friday. They took our side in the argument and passed Catch and Release only shark fishing, against the recommendation of the agency. This decision proves, that if you put your passion to work and do the leg work, you can still have an favorable outcome in this state. I would like to thank everyone here, who commented on the proposal, and gave us the support necessary to take on Goliath. This would not have been possible without the help of dedicated conservation minded sportsmen.
Thanks Guys,'
Captain Kelly

Sorry, I was not aware of this issue. Were they trying to impose a no fishing for sharks or something else. Also, what sharks are we talking about and where. Thanks for the info, like I said, I have not heard anything on this subject.

Yes, the state proposed to ban all fishing for Sevengill, Sixgill, and Thresher Sharks. We put out a concentrated effort to make it a C and R only fishery.

Thanks for clarification, very glad to hear the system still works at times.

thanks for explaining, and congrats. Is this a big fishery in the ocean? Are there charters for this? I remember back in the 80's here in the South Puget Sound, there was a guy who did charters for Six Gill Sharks. Seen him get some pretty big ones.

Can't say to much, or I will be in violation of the use policies for this site, but there is a guy in Willapa Bay, that runs one, lol.

I would suggest checking out 7gilloutfitters.com Captain Kelly works hard to put you on the sharks. We had less than favorable conditions and still brought 3 to the boat and missed several other bites. He is the only shark fishing guide in Washington. If it wasn't for him we wouldn't have a catch and release fishery for them!

I'm sure a guide fishing for 7gills wouldn't be hard to find around hear. You might even find one in this topic :dunno:
keep an eye out for a guy posting pics and talking about sharks
