Title: What lone wolf barrel? G20
Post by: HuntandFish on March 02, 2013, 08:04:03 PM
I want to order a new barrel for my G20SF and am looking to improve accuracy, especially at longer ranges. What do you all run, 6", 5" tactical, or stock length replacement?

Anything else I should consider?

Thanks allot!

I would run the 6" but of course you would have some jump in here and claim it was all the guy behind the gun and you should be able to do it with a 1.5" super modified Sub-Sub compact.😉

I would get the standard (no ports). The additional length does not give that much velocity and makes it a huge pain to carry. The ports/additions also create problems.

I know there is a ton of info out there. I have a 29 and a 20 and shoot/carry them very often. I also reload extensively. After much searching, I bought a Storm Lake barrel and have been extremely happy with it. I wanted to try something new for my 29 and bought a lone wolf. It was not machined well and would lock the slide back (would catch on the breach). To the company's credit, they offered a replacement or refund. They have great customer service, but I only buy Storm Lake Barrels now. FYI for what it is worth.

I have a ported stormlake barrel for my 20.  No complaints with it .  It is longer Jan harder to conceal, but that's why it's my field gun, and the reason I bought my 29.

I have a 6" kkm waiting for me at home. I wanted a barsto, but they were backed up and I caught kkm on the right day. I will be trimming mine back from 6" till I love it.

Your biggest limiting factor is going to be the short distance between the front and rear sights, if you long slide it that distance goes up allowing you more precision.

The extra barrel length will be a bonus,  but with a factory length slide I wouldn't bother to stick in anything more than factory length.

Also junk that factory glock sight and put in something for target shooting or an optic.

Thanks for all the input! I will be ordering a storm lake stock length non ported shortly! I'll post an update once I get out and shoot it.

Thanks!

If your looking to get a little more speed out of it i would get the extended barrel but that will make carry a little bit of a chore, ports are awesome if all you are doing is target shooting i wouldn't recommend them for a defensive gun or one that will be shot in low light conditions because of the extra flame coming out the top of the barrel will defiantly make seeing at night even harder ;) If it was me and all you wanted was increased accuracy i would just get a standard length match grade barrel and you will be good to go. I have had great luck with storm lake and lone wolf.
