20D uses a CF card, most multi card readers accept CF's these days

Try a new cable. I have always pulled my cards and used a card reader, I have several friends that have had issues loading from the camera so I never got in that habit. Multi card readers can be found for $10-$15

Card readers are dirt cheap. Good Guys, Walmart, Target etc.
Here's one, seems a little pricey, I haven't figured out why though:

Just make sure it's CF compatible. Should be able to get one for about $16.

My 400D has a CF card. Are you saying that loading from the camera causes premature wear or eventually ruins something? $10-15 for a card reader is definitely cheaper than a new camera but I've been using the cable for the camera for years without problems. :dunno:

I use a SanDisk ImageMate All-in-One USB reader, I think it cost me $12

I've had friends lose all their images while transfering from the camera, some have had power spikes while transfering that took out systems in the camera. :dunno:

Shouldn't be an issue with wear. I've noticed it myself, my computer(s) wont recognize the hard wired USB connection to several cameras. But sometimes they do.
But every computer seem to recognize a card reader.
