Post by: motg9_6 on March 05, 2013, 05:53:05 AM
so 388 and 382 have met their quote on couagars and season is shut down as of the 13 of feb. driving to work sunday (i know had to work sunday :o) saw some animals running towards the road through the trees so i started to slow down all of a sudden a big cougar just across the road and 2 more turned back and ran were they came from. im not sure what they are like in your guys areas  but the cougars are getting way our of control around klickitat county. no pics happened to fast i dont think i cold have got a shot even if it was season :'(. i think its time we start push wdfw alittle harder to manage large game and not predators!! :bash: :bash:

GMU 335 is the same way, an awful lot of cats sighting lately, I always wondered how they are able to estimate the population in the units, and what criteria is used to establish the quotas.

I saw a special on TV awhile back about cats in Montana.  They were having a lot more cougars show up in areas.  They did a study and found that they were moving from other areas due to wolves coming into their areas and either pushing them out or making them compete more for food.  I wonder if that is happening here?  The balance could be out of whack :dunno:

Push away.  I spent a lot of time on this and was really disappointed with the lack of effort hunters will put into getting changes made at WDFW.  We have hundreds of guys screaming bloody murder about wolves and the problems they will eventually cause but totally ignore cougar management that is all ready out of control.

Use this graph all you want.

They are getting crazy here. We have went from wintering 300+ deer to maybe 50-70 on our ranch this winter. Never had any on our place that we knew about 5 years ago. Now that they have moved in the are killing out the deer.

Our unit 407 has no cougar limit! The season goes till end of March for us!!  But they are pretty elusive around here, only one sighting that I know of in the area we ride in.  It was seen by at least two people, one didn't bring her gun that day and the other was target practicing when the Border Patrol pointed it out and asked if he was going to shoot it and he said he was out of ammo!!
