Post by: RadSav on March 05, 2013, 06:06:18 PM: In staying traditional I like Zwickey. Holds an edge much better than Magnus and most others. My first four bear were taken with the Zwickey and none went beyond 30 yards after the shot. Though I do use the Lansky sharpener on them with the finest hone made for it.

If going moderately traditional the WASP Sharpshooter is one heck of a good head. Again I would encourage the Lansky sharpener and fine hone. If memory serves me correct that is the yellow hone.

If traditional is not your main goal a longer than normal (these days) replaceable blade head is sharper and in most cases easier to keep sharp. Savora Champion 125, Thunderhead 125 and the like have killed plenty of critters effectively out of the traditional bow. We will be offering a titanium ferruled Champion style head later this year just for those traditional bow shooters. It's pretty wicked!

Post by: Tradhunter on March 13, 2013, 07:54:48 PM: I agree with Sakoshooter, greenheads all the way! I wont use the bleeder blades though as they can cause bad plaining. Although Bear razorheads are collectors, I feel some kind of satisfaction dropping an elk with 40+ year old technology. The downside to them is they are a softer metal and tend to dull easy. By the way :hello: as I am new to join but have been a lingering viewer for quite some time!

I've actually thought about bringing that head back to life. Can't belive how many of those I lost shooting at rabbits way back when. Somewhere in Oregon there is about $5,000 in my old Deadheads rotting in the dirt :(

I would love to see them come back to life. There is a company that makes some heads that look a lot like the deadheads. I have seen a few of the African bow hunters run them. They have a few more vent holes in them then the deadheads but look a lot like them.

Same shape as Zwickey except it won't rust and has vents to resist wind planing. For longer shots in open eastern Washington I like the Magnus stinger. Last year got a Muley doe at 51 yards with double carbon longbow, 2016 shaft and Stinger Broadhead.

Zephyr is making some good stuff :tup: For stainless traditional heads they've really done a nice job.

But I'm curious! Why is it people believe vents will resist wind planning? I've always found that facinating. Isn't a car with it's windows rolled up more aerodynamic than a car with it's windows rolled down :dunno: Advertising spin has really gotten the best of bowhunters the last 25 years.

Also, do people honestly believe "stainless" means "rustless"? I need to get the camera fixed on my microscope ;) Posting some pics might really open peoples eyes. And get people shooting some sharper broadheads too!
