Post by: Nice Racks on March 05, 2013, 01:21:37 PM: Just wanted to introduce myself. I recently became a member here and hoping to gain some knowledge on elk hunting, and maybe make a friend or two. Who knows, maybe I will be able to help someone out in some sort or another. I recently retired from Fort Lewis, and yes I'm a Steeler fan, so don't hate me. I guess I may as well ask my first question and get it over with. Once I decide where I'm going to place a hang on stand, how far in advance of opening day should I place it? I'm afraid too early and someone may steal it, and a day or two before I may blow the elk out of the area. Take care everyone.

I wouldn't leave a stand out on public land. Some view it as abandoned property and may add to to their collection.

Post by: Stizz on March 05, 2013, 06:20:14 PM: Welcome! Hang your stand up and use a climbing stick to get in and out, that way when you leave you can stash or take the stick. It would take quite a bit of effort for someone to get it then...especially if it was a good hike off the road.
