Just wanted to introduce myself.  I recently became a member here and hoping to gain some knowledge on elk hunting, and maybe make a friend or two.  Who knows, maybe I will be able to help someone out in some sort or another.  I recently retired from Fort Lewis, and yes I'm a Steeler fan, so don't hate me.  I guess I may as well ask my first question and get it over with.  Once I decide where I'm going to place a hang on stand, how far in advance of opening day should I place it?  I'm afraid too early and someone may steal it, and a day or two before I may blow the elk out of the area.  Take care everyone.

Welcome aboard!

I wouldn't leave a stand out on public land. Some view it as abandoned property and may add to to their collection.

Welcome! Hang your stand up and use a climbing stick to get in and out, that way when you leave you can stash or take the stick. It would take quite a bit of effort for someone to get it then...especially if it was a good hike off the road.

Welcome... I'd hang the stand a couple of weeks early, and take it down at the end of the season. Presuming it will be off the beaten path a little. I've never worried about it, and never had a problem.

I would put it out months in advance and have a sign on it "welcome to hunt or take, I'm a Steelers fan" lol.

Welcome to the site!!
