Title: 2009 Idaho Archery Elk hunt

My husband and I want to hunt Idaho next year, take some time off, get out of dodge where the phones don't work. Thought we would buy tags for Idaho for 2009 hunt Any information would be great!
We archery hunt, and would tow a trailer small not large with us so we could get up into the woods with out much problems.

I hear there's some good hunting around the Dworshak Resevior and I know a lot of guys hunt the Saint Joseph Forest for bulls...  Good luck and good on ya to start getting info this far in advance!!!

island park seems to be a popular place for elk but it kinda borders yellowstone so it may be a bit to popular if you know what i mean, look up www.fishandgame.idaho.gov/ifwis/huntplanner and look at recent sucess rates and hunter numbers, they also list percentages of 6 point or better bulls taken so if youre looking for trophy quality check that stat also, from there almost all archery tags are over the counter any bull with the exception of hells canyon zone and owyhee zone, hopefully this will give you an idea of where to start looking, also pick up the book Big Game Hunters Guide to Idaho, I bought a copy as soon as I moved down here and it is full of helpful information for all species in idaho
