G5 Optix XR or the g5 optix rock? anyone use em?
-
I ran an XR2 for one season, loved it until it broke on the first hunt of a backcountry elk hunt. My mule decided to try and rake me off him with a limb, i managed to duck under it but my bow caught on the branch and knocked off a couple arrows from my quiver, it was mounted to my eberlestock X1. When I got back to camp I noticed my pins were gone. We managed to make due and fasten a set of crosshairs from some bailing twine but my range was significantly reduced, as you can imagine. That cast magnesium just isn't very strong, it took very little effort to bust off the pins.

Are you stuck on g5? I would really suggest looking into other brands. Black gold or axcel are very solid sights.

I'd lean towards a spot hogg. G5 treated me ok and sent me a Rock sight since the XR2 broke but its just my back up, its still much more flimsy looking than my spot hogg. The guy told me the XR's have been failing just like mine, but supposedly the Rock is a lot more solid being machined aluminum. :twocents:
