im thinking about focusing abound the sultan basin area for deer this season, and im just wondering if the area is a zoo come hunting season, or if ill be able to hike in a few miles and find some solitary areas to hunt. im thinking about hiking in and maybe setting up a mineral lick with a trail cam, and possible some corn and see what the area holds. im not looking for anyone honey holes or anything, but hoping someone may have more experience with the area and what its like during season.

I use to hunt around the lake. Killed a bear and seen very little deer. I know they are there but just hard to find at lease by the lake. Lots of bear though.
-
from what ive heard there plenty of bear in the area. im thinking a little lower down from the lake around recently logged area. my wife is due in june, so im planning on staying close to home this year just in case the baby or her need me, so im trying to figure this area out just in case we cant make it out to the east side.

I used to hunt Duval a lot. Seen lots of deer off cedar ponds road, gated roads off of Ben Howard rd,and stosal creek rd. Killed a few in there years ago. Pritty much all gated now. I was looking at Google earth and there is still a lot of logging going on miles in. I seen a few people mounting bike hunting. Lots of deer but miles in. I seen lots of big bucks before the gates. good luck.

When I lived on the westside in Monroe, I found the mountain bike very useful for exploring and hunting a few of the nooks and crannies in the Sultan Basin area... ;)

I saw a few small buck last year. Biggest one was s 3x4 but it was not deer season yet. A few 2 points as well.

There is some deer and bear....yotes also. Just gotta explore and look out for the crazy nudists.
-
H20hunter is one of them so watch out.
-
ill take the nudists over the tweakers if you ask me

Ive been hunting the basin for five years and weve taken four deer with a bow.pm me if your interested on some details, leave the corn its a waist of time
-
There is some really nice deer but they are further back in then most people want to go. Plenty of bears and cats too.

Isn't that area Snoqualmie tree farm? and require a permit even for bike in?

You keep posting stud bucks like that it will be a zoo.

-
Yep you are right ever things on the eastside.

Those are some dandy bucks Cascade.

Now im torn between huntin the TRIPOD BURN for monster mulies or Sultan basin for monster Blacktails? :bash: :bash: :bash:
-
I worked in the area for a few years and saw two or three bruisers per year. If your lucky they get rutted up before the season closes. Lk Chaplin and the Startup area have a few deer as well.
-
I was just messing with you guys, those deer are from a entirely different unit far away from Sultan Basin. I recommend going east to Twisp or Republic.
-
yep told ya eastside is where its at
