Title: Lets play name that Poo!
Post by: Smossy on March 18, 2013, 01:47:29 PM
Last hiking/shed hunting outing, Seen tons upon tons of signs of animals in the area. These are just a few of the pictures.
I know one with the tooth in it is more than likely a coyote. But not sure what species exactly are the others..?

? What locations are these.  I have seen Wolf like this usually deer hair.  Werewolf it was in Forks.
Pellets I would vote Mule droppings.  Elk is usually blacker and more abundant in piles.
? where is the pile in the last photo

Haha used for size comparison, We seen lots of other large piles that were about 100x more pellets, but about half the size.

Id say around the Mt Rainier area, Somewhere along the base of it and IS open to hunting during hunting season.
And this was the only set of droppings that weren't In a full pile, Kinda why I decided to stop and take photos. Ill go out there next week and take a lot more pictures for everyone.  I literally found 70-80 good semi-fresh piles in 4-5 hours that still had lots of color all over the place, Including tracks like I posted above also. Some were harder to find but some are absolutely obvious.

Oh and I heard some extremely weird noises that stopped me and my girl in our tracks. We were in a pretty secluded area near the base of Mt Rainier. We were trekking through trees checking for more scrapes at the time and we heard an EXTREMELY loud screetch, almost bugle like sound. It was borderline ear piercing. The sound was absolutely creepy for myself, being as Ive never heard a noise like that. Wondering if elk or anything make high pitched noises or anything? Not sure. Hard to explain though. It was extreeeemely close to us though.

Also seen some ducks Ive never seen before a small pond that was in the area. They were jet black, with a small white feather at what looked like the end of they're wing, and ICE white - Just purree white bills... Never seen one of those myself either. Any ideas?

Very.
Make for great table food.  Kill them all, you get 25 a day for your limit.

Is there a season for them? Id probably have to use my bow lol

Yeah, there is a season.  The waterfowl booklet will show you exact dates.  They are waterfowl, but have a different limit than ducks.
Your bow should not be a problem, just get some fluflus and make sure they float.  Those coot will hang around for shot after shot.  Dont do a lot of flying.
