Not sure if this has been posted on here before but I am glad they are doing this study and excited to hear the results when it's all said and done in a few years.

id really be interested in the movements of the 4 1/2 and older bucks..they are another breed

Well I have trail cam pics of 4 of his deer. 3 different bucks and a doe with a collar. Bucks have ear transmitters. I have tried to contact him BT he will not ever return a call. I think sometimes these bios are too good for us common folk that spend hundreds of actual hours in the woods each year.
I would post the pics but am in Cali. When I get home I can pull them off my lap top and post.

I hunted a big buck(8 1/2) one year the biggest i harvested and he spent from late March till late November in a 250 acre pc of timber with a small creek and a large falfa field he traveled the same oval pattern every single day..soon as snow fell in late November it was a exodus to the low land

That is funny he stated that the doe migrated dec 19th.
I just hiked in the mountains today and pulled 2 cameras that had been snowed in.
Both those spots cleared out dec 19th

they should come to the north cascades, these deer have a different life style than those southern blackies.

This shows there are no absolutes in Nature. We have all been told that whitetail deer are homebodies, however 20 miles is quite a distance for travel. Ive read studies that show whitetails in Northern states were prone to winter kill as they usually did not like to leave their home area. Amazing. In the dense stands of timber in the Northeast and some of the more remote terrain they inhabit leaves much to imagination as to their habits and movements. Just like in the Boreal Forest of Canada, there are places where a deer could live and never encounter a hunter. I have a large tract of private land in the Northeast that had only seen two years of hunting pressure in 40 years. It became evident after some hiking that there where some monster bucks that lived their whole lives there and died of ripe old age. The sheds and skulls remain to prove it. The surrounding properties see their share of pressure, and through the generations of deer they have become accustomed to living where people dont go. This is why our current state record typical came out of Stevens county. There is much to be learned from this study, hope to see more info in the future. :tup:

There are 2 other counties that get less whitey pressure than stevens and have far greater areas void of roads

Interesting reads but there is some serious capital needed for these studies. Government funded or not thats a lot of money.

Intresting, hopeing to hear the rest of this story. BTW stevens isint that big and not many areas are "undiscovered".

:yeah: I cant think of anywhere that doesnt have a road thru it or within a mile or 2 u will run into one
