Got the call yesterday saying my new gun arrived. Went and picked it up and am very pleased with it. Ammo should show up tomorrow and plan to break it in on Saturday. Been thinking hard about optics for it. Don't know what to go with. Hoping you will have some input that will help. This is a hunting gun that can do about anything except a quick draw comp. 14" barrel and an over all length of 22" make that tough. Not to mention the 5.5 pounds it weighs with nothing on it.

Holy $hit.
-
Good God man! Wow, What a piece!
-
I want one......

Holy crap. I saw your post the other day saying you were waiting on yours with a 14" barrel. I thought to myself that I couldn't wait to see whatever that would be. Not the look I was expecting. That thing is crazy. Can't wait to see the range report.
-
I cant wait to give the range report. S&W claims that this gun with a 200 yard zero will be in the kill zone from the muzzle to 250 with no hold over. Hope they are right.

That's me being green with envy.
I want one. I have absolutely no need for one, but I want one.
-
that thing is bad ass ! I'm thinking a 4x scope is needed for that beast ! best pistol round .
-
Be careful with that thing--a friend of mine got a 460 revolver, and shot it at the range. The next day he went to the doctor because his arm hurt something awful. He told the doc what he had done, and the doctor told him if he wanted to keep the use of his arm, to get rid of the gun. I was standing 8 feet away when he fired it, and the concussion was fierce. The shooting range was under a metal-roofed canopy, and every shot blew dirt and bird poop out of the rafters above us! :chuckle:
-
Woww!! That looks like a handful!
-
what kind of gains do you get outta the 14 over a 8 ? do you change powder ? . I have a 44 mag lever action that with pistol rounds will flat punish you !
-
That thing has pain written all over it!
-
I've built a T/C Encore with a 16" .460 S/W barrel and had excellent results. My barrel was made by MGM in St. George, UT and has a built in muzzle break. VERY loud and a serious kick, but accurate and great knock-down. Using the factory ammo and a 1.4x4 Pentax scope. I'll look for a picture of it, if anyone's interested??
-
Wow!very cool!...... :yike:
-
I would love to see video of this being shot....curious to see the recoil.

+1
And that thing looks like something out of a video game. Attach a sword to it and good to go!
(don't get me wrong, it's pretty sweet, just has a huge wow factor)

 I want one. :chuckle:
-
Better double up on the ear plugs while shooting that cannon. :o
-
Look's like fun
-
Ok, gun is frickin sweet. Mild recoil and only about 3-4 inches of muzzle jump off the bench. Put 20 rounds through it and no hand tingles at all. Its really accurate at 25-50 yards, was dancing all around clays at 200. Note to self, pack muffs and glasses in the field. Muzzle blast is pretty extreme but I love it. I still need to practice more for longer range shooting. Put a Bushnell handgun scope on it in the 2-6 power. Not sure I like it. Will post pics and try to post a vid for you jrebel. Went with the 14 inch barrel for extra weight so there is no pain when you shoot it.
-
For sure pack muffs in the field. I shot my 454 two times without hearing protection and did damage both times. Not worth shooting it without them.
I would for sure switch out the scope. Doesnt sound like the recoil is going to be crazy to knock the scope off but I would look to burris or leupold. All my huntings handguns have one or the other on them.
-
Anyone make an IWB for it so you can CCW with it? :yike:
-
Cool, quite the barrel! Here is my big pistol next to a 44 mag, I dig pics like that

holy smokes! that thing is a canon. :yike: i bet it is fun to shoot. would make a nice bear gun.
-
I dont know if you can actually "win" at guns, but I tbink you just swept the revolver division.

all the girls: "are you happy to see me, or is that a S&W .460 in your pants with a 14 inch barrel?"

That's got bear and hog written ALL over it, I like
-
Sweet gun and great round!

Ok my brother is the military guy/gun toting mad man like you all on here :chuckle: but i have to ask what the heck is the plan for that hand canon?

1. Fire three times.
2. Clean and put back in box.
3. List on Hunt-WA classifieds as LNIB.
To OP: Just kidding. Nice pocket pistol. But you might need a bigger truck.

Uh Uh. I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a 460 Hand Cannon, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?
-
Had one for several years. Great deer gun to 200 yrds. with the open sights!
-
I would pass on the optics, I purchased the first 500 S&W to hit town. Shot the heck out of it, decided to scope it. Threw on a Leupold 2.5-8, lasted about two shooting sessions and I ditched the scope. I wanted to used the handgun across the board from Carp to Bear. The scope just didn't work for me for my intended use. The pistol was still spooky accurate out to 200 with open sights. Thought about dumping it for the .460 when they first came out but after doing the math, I prefer the speed of the .500.
-
KfHunter, Nice thing with this caliber, nothing else is even close for long range reach in a revolver! :-)

Sweet hand cannon.
-
what a hand cannon
-
So, we're all waiting...how's it shoot?
-
I had a problem keeping a scope on this thing. First I put a Bushnell trophy handgun scope on it. Was pretty happy with the scope until I fired it. Blew it up on the first shot. Now I moved up to a leupold fx2 2.5x28 and put 3 rings to hold it down. Got 10 rounds through it with that scope and no issues yet.
-
should put a 22 and a 9 and a 40 with the pic of the 2 bullets. that would be cool. mike w
-
Nice handgun, I want to get one but not as dressed up like the one you bought. When things get going again and I get extra money I'll have on, I just bought six guns in the past two weeks. I'd love to see a video of you shooting your 460,if you take a video you should put it on you-tube.
-
Wow.. a handgun with a bipod... where's the shoulder rest?
-
Should be good out to 200-300 yards with under 40 yr old eyes with a steady hold. The 460 has the energy and a flat trajectory compared to any other large caliber out there for deer sized game! Wish this round was around back in the 80's when silhouette was all the craze!! It is faster then even the 500 S&W, and hits almost as hard!
-
Dang man that's one hell of a hog leg right there! Just what a guy needs in bear & wolf country. Want to git me one!
-
Any report on how it shoots?
-
Its a fun gun to shoot. Drew a cow tag this year so I am going to use it for that. Recoil is very mild but the blast is extreme. Will have to wear eyes and ears on this hunt. Factory ammo is outrageous and ranges from 32.00 for Hornady 200gr and goes to 72.00 for the Winchester supreams. With that being said, I bought dies and reload for it. I am now looking for a way to carry it. Have not found a good holster, if you want to call it a holster.
-
I don't know about the 14" tube for carrying but imagine you will need to come up with a sling system. An across the chest holster carries the 8 3/8" well but doubt the 14" would be comfortable in it. I have seen slings on the 10.5" that seem to work. The 8 3/8" was great and really mild to shot with full loads (using the compensator) and was comfortable standing or rested. Took 2 deer with it in 2 shots so you could say I liked it.
We had som video shooting at night that started with 2 .45 Colt loads followed by the full power load. Two little flashes and then a flame thrower. It was pretty impressive.
Worst recoil ever was a uncompensated 2.5" barreled .500 S&W. Shooting 440grn heavy loads peeled the skin off the web of my palm with the sticky Hogue grip.
-
Looking for a way to carry it? How about putting wheels and a hitch on it. :chuckle: Looks pretty good for a long range big bore. I think you just coined a new phrase from hog leg to moose leg. :chuckle:
-
Put a sling swivel on it and use a single point tac sling. Its about the same size as my AK pistol. And thats what I use.
-
Thanks wildman, I will look into that today.
-
You may also want to consider using a backpack designed for carrying a rifle or bow. That's how I carry my bolt action pistols while hunting. When you think about it, you're never going to "snap shoot" with the gun so you don't need a quick draw holster.
The 460 is fun round but the muzzle blast is in a class of it's own! I sold my 460 and got a 45-70 revolver to replace it. The 460 wins with the light and fast bullets, but the 45-70 won with the heavy (400+ grain) bullets that I prefer. I may still have some 200gr FTX bullets left over if you would be interested. I'll see if I can find them.

"...being that this is a 460, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question...."
-
I am starting to lean in that direction. I looked at a single point sling yesterday and decided that I didnt want the gun pointing at my head while I would be walking around...lol. The way its balanced took care of a sling idea. Guess I will have to throw it in my pack until I spot some elk and move in.
-
I use a bandolier style with my 500 S&W and my 460 T/C Encore. They both have over 12" barrels and keep it under my coat or jacket until I need to draw it. I've seen a few models out there large enough for your gun.
-
Crap the deer are just going to fall down and die when you pull that hunk of pain out. , rather than get shot by it.
-
Or the noise will kill them if the bullet doesn't hit the mark. :o
:chuckle:

That bad boy looks like it should be mounted on a rail car aimed at Paris. Jawohl!
