one these days I will cross the capercaillie off my bird hunting bucket list.

And with a Gordon Setter. Pretty sweet. Always wanted a strutting Cap on a pedestal in the entry way...one day...

I managed a few hunts when i worked in Russia in the 1990's. I hunted se of Nizhniy Novgord with some local Russian game officers. Actually more drinking than hunting.  lol

Anyway managed to shoot one. Hunted behind wire haired pointer. He would stop beneath a tree and sit when he located a bird.  Almost like a squirrel dog. They roosted pretty high in the trees.

They are big birds. See if I can find a pic. pre digital camera days.
