Title: saw a deer with hair loss
Post by: Dbax129 on April 01, 2013, 10:24:18 AM
It was by Raineer school, just behind the Kapowsin gate off of Ryan road in buckley.  A do and her fawn, no spots, and getting pretty big, but definitely the Jr.  She had no hair on her right side from her belly to just below the spine, front shoulder had hair, and back knee did, but a bald spot on the the rear end and small one on the neck too.  Didn't see the other side of the deer.  I wasn't sure if I should report this to dfw or hancock or anybody else...
Saw it yesterday, easter sunday

May not be the hair loss syndrome but simply just going from their winter coat to their summer coat. I have found literally clumps of deer hair the past three weeks or so. Doesn't sound abnormal.

 :yeah:
Every year about this time of year you'll see it.  A doe with twin fawns have been in my yard lately; all 3 of them have splotches of missing hair.  And I frequently see 3 or 4 deer along the shoulder of the freeway by Exit 99 and they all have varying degrees of hair missing.

Awesome. Thanks guys, I didn't realize they would show bare skin when shedding out from winter. Well that makes me feel a lot better.

I have been seeing the same thing aswell, always this time of year. But that being said...I have seen 3 doe the last week, couldppossibly be the same doe within a mile stretch of road, she was missing 50% of her hair...down to bare skin and lookedvery unhealthy.

It may not be "hair loss"....but she is definitely sick and losing hair. If in fact it is 3 different deer, then we might have a cause for concern.

It could be HLS though.   :dunno:

I saw the same thing this weekend. This girl was almost bald around the ribs. But this herd is usually pretty healthy so it must just be the change because she was with a Doe.

When I first saw the title of this thread I thought I was going to see some David Copperfield stuff.  :chuckle:

After checking out that link, she looked exactly like the HLS examples, and not like the molt example.  Very similar to the picture posted. Cause for concern? Is this something dfw wants reported?
