I'm seriously considering a DIY moose hunt in Ak in 2014. Has anyone here employed the services of
Forty mile air and if so how was the service?

Did a DIY moose caribou hunt in 2002 in Alaska. We didn't use forty mile air so cant help there. Only thing I can say is do lots and lots of homework in where you are wanting to go hunt to getting back home with your meat and trophies. It is not as easy as it used to be. Wish u lots of luck. it is a lot of fun hunting up there.

It seems to be affordable with FMAir. this years cost is 1750 or so for moose + 900 to fly it out and store it till you get out. So thats 3k right there. $400 for lic and tag, and the rest in transportation/food expenses to and fro; will drive; and total cost should be just at $5k per hunter. A guided hunt in Ak for moose is $14K. FM wont put a time limit on your hunt and they wont drop others off in the area your in so thats a big plus, and they have been doing this since the 1950s. Just need some feedback about them and equipment list essentials. They limit to 50lbs per hunter in gear.

I used there services on a Dall hunt a couple of years ago. The guys that were using them for moose hunts were pulling some whoppers!

I would think FM would supply a list of recommended supplies to bring on the hunt. They should also supply u a list of referrals from there past clients. this will be your biggest source of information. I would call them all. Get pros and cons. Ask them about things to bring. these referrals are a huge source of information on everything from trophy quality to things to bring to how fm performed for them. We got a ton of great info from past clients for our trip.
The other thing to not overlook. bringing your trophy back. After our hunt we sent everything back Alaska air cargo. They put all our meat, trophy's in there cooler till it was time to ship, then it was put back in a cooler here in Seattle till we picked it up.
BUT you have to become a known shipper. Witch requires you to do a little extra work with Alaska air cargo before your trip, but was worth it to us.
I do have list of the things that we brought. if you want pm me and i can fax it to you. I still have all our list from our trip from gear to food.
X_FORCE we went on our trip in 2002 never did a story on it. We killed 2 caribous and 2 moose and caught a ton of fish great time. We did our caribou off a remote lake then flew north to Holy Cross and did 2 weeks on a remote river for moose. Unfortunately I have 35mm pictures not digital. So can not share. Biggest moose was 63 inches Caribou were average. But a trip of a life time.
