Caught a big fat mole with hand and shovel! One of the most intense hunts ive been on. Took three days to catch since the first push up. Missed him/her once. Didnt miss the second round. I always enjoy the spring hunt for the mole. It rates higher than spring bear and spring turkey for me. :chuckle:
-
Thats a beast....full body mount?
-
 Only seen a few that big, that is a fatty! I don't remember how many my dad's count is at now, probably close to 500 in the last 20 years or so. But, he also uses a less challenging and intense method :chuckle:
-
Looks like a trophy Townsends. Did you weigh him? I'm looking for the elusive 5-ouncer. Came up just a couple grams shy on one a number of years ago.
-
I have one this big at the taxidermy shop from last year. I like the weighing them idea. Maybe need to start a record club for them? :chuckle:
-
Do you just sit and watch for them surfacing?
-
That's a booner
-

Yep, just like sittin' in a stand.
-
That's a toad. Probably 13, maybe 14mm skull measurement. I'd like to see a mouth-open table-top rug mount done on one that big.
Every once in a while, I'll see my retired neighbor just standing out in his yard motionless, smoking a cig, pitchfork in hand, staring at the ground. Creeped my girl out a few times when she would see him just standin' and starin'... :chuckle: He's let the air out of a few over the years with that method.
-
I think the nose is the measurement of trophy size for them since it does all the damage with it? :chuckle:
That is a nice one, mine don't fare as well #7 birdshot destroys them. 8)
-
with all the talk about mounts, measurements & methods, im wondering when it will turn to recipies, smoker times & weather its roasts or pepper sticks.
nice one by the way, sounds like it was an awsome hunt :chuckle:
-
Look at the mitts on that guy :yike:
-
Have many different tactics for huntin the elusive moles. If its rainin ill set up the good old primos ground blind and waitem out. Somtimes ill just keep an eye on the most used mound site and act fast when i see new dirt. I do have an array of weapons on hand at any given time. Shotgun, pitchfork, shovel, gardenhose, and a stick. Somtimes have to sit on the roof of the house as to not spook em. One must be very cleaver with tactics to kill the mole or you will never succeed.

This discussion won't be complete unless someone mentions Rasbo and a real mole skin codpiece. Guess I just did...
-
Yes the cod piece!!!! :chuckle: Not sure i want to get my first ban from the site at this time? :chuckle:
-

:yike: This pig scores at least 4 5/8 B&C.
-
Can they bite? Do you just pick them up or what?

They can but they are pretty harmless. Usually dead by the time you handle them :chuckle:

:chuckle: This cracked me up.

Probably just a shoulder mount. In a cool pose like its attacking a worm..

I saw an older gentleman the other day doing something similar, except he had a shotgun. I was parked and looking at a herd of elk in the back of his field. Then I saw him and couldn't figure out what the heck he was doing. At first I thought he was stalking the elk. But he was in the wide open field and he'd stop in a random spot and stare at the ground for a while, and he didn't even appear to be looking at the elk. Finally, as I was watching through the binos, I saw him reach down and pick up a mole trap. Then it dawned on me he was a mole hunter/trapper.
-
Ive never seen one of those in person but it looks EVIL in the picture
-
See ya got rid of the problem without havin to flood him out! CTV down!!! bet he didnt seeya comin!!! haaaa :chuckle:

500! He could have made a fur coat out of that many. Or two :chuckle: Wonder if PETA wold throw paint on your lady for wearing one of those?

I want to try the propane and oxygen down the tunnel, followed by a little flame. I heard about that and visualized the mole going out of sight over the neighbor's house. I'd probably try it on the neighbors lawn first though.

My neighbor did that a few weeks ago. It sounded like a war zone. I wouldn't recommend this if you live in the suburbs or city.
-
How did you do it! I hate those things! I am always unsuccessful in terminating them.
-
I just pulled # 51 out of trap by the chicken coop, he wernt near as big as the one you got.
-
I prefer a 20 ga and blow them into pieces :chuckle:

I don't have the patience for the primitive weapons hunting. The 12 gauge 3-1/2" mags. are pretty effective against such dangerous game, just inconvenient having to get the tractor out to fix the yard. :chuckle:

I feel the need to watch caddy shack now.

That's what i did then when the dirt mound started to rise i pounced with the shovel like i was diggin for a clam the old fashioned way and then when he flopped up on the dirt the flat bladed shovel got a mind of its own and 1 mole became 2 pieces of mole..Kinda cool actually.. Dropped him into the hole for his friends to see what's up if they too choose to hang out. 8) They're destructive as heck
-
Meant to post this the other day. The official weight and length
of the beast! 5.75 ounces and 8" nose to tail!!!!
-
As an official measurer for a number of record keeping organizations, I am guessing you've got a B&C qualifier there. Nice work. The dedication and follow through is exemplary. PM me after the 60 day drying period and we'll get him entered :chuckle:
-
That's a Booner

I would advise against this method, a freind of my dads blew up his house with this method, the gas made it's way into the basement and found the pilot light for the furnace,ka boom, blew all the windows out.
