For all you guys that tune and maintain your own bows. How did you learn and is there anyhting you would recommend, to help me learn, such as book or videos. I have a good idea of the things involved and know most of the basics, just no practical experience. I would really like learn everything I can. Thanks for the help

archerytalk has been one of my greatest assets and in the same has been a hindrance.
nuts and bolts on that forum has some great threads on tuning.radsav on this sight is very helpful also.

I'd start with paper tuning, stuff every archer should do then start adding things to do on your own.
Learn how to tie nice servings and D loops
Learn to cut and wrap your own arrows, along with installing various inserts and knocks
Then you'll be ready for a bow press.

Thanks for the replies, yeah, I have been reading alot of the post on Archery Talk and they seem to be pretty informative. RadSav seems to be the man around here as well, and I keep an eye on his post too. Arrows is a must, I have already shot a few blazers off, so I intend to pick up a jig pretty soon. I can't get carried away, I just bought the bow a week ago..haha, wife might kill me if I don't stop spending all this money. I've been waiting for a while, so I got the things I wanted. I just don't get the warm fuzzy from the pro shops, not that they don't do a good job, I just don't know for sure that they did and would really like to.

Learn how to tune your bow for broadheads.

I have been reading a little about broadhead tuning, I'm kinda taking it slow, one thing at a time. The bow was not paper tuned when I bought it, so I'm going to do that, just want to see how it does. It seems to shoot really good, decent groups and quite. I am getting a little bit of peep rotation, I'm sure the string is streching some. Thats kinda driving me crazy.

paper tuning is just a start for me.but it all works just the same.
i think bareshaft tuning will get u real close to gettin your broadheads hitting with your field points.
when i first started shooting i just broadhead tuned.just moved my rest towards where the broadhead hit untill they both hit the same.
if you have a yoke in your cable system you can leave your rest at alone for the left to rights and just adjust the left and rights with twists.i prefer doing this now that i have a bow that i can do so with

Depending on the type of bow you have you can build a bow press for cheap. I did it for about 30 bucks. Working on them is pretty easy.

Did you build a Linear press?

I recommend starting by learning basic knots, serving, installing a peep sight and as stated and paper tuning. YouTube and archerytalk have been really good for me. Look for a pdf file you can download on archerytalk called Nuts and bolts of Archery. Very helpfull. What kind of bow do you have? Here is a pic of a press I made with bowmaster limb adapters and some stuff I had around the house.

:yeah: I'm new to archery as well, and that book has been a huge help. I don't think you can buy it anywhere anymore, but my library has it.
