Title: Mineral Lake
Post by: 7mmfan on April 06, 2013, 09:27:47 AM
Soooooo, I don't want to be the jerk that asks for information on a super secret spot like Mineral Lake, but I'm gonna. I'm going to be down there for a friends bachelor party on opening weekend, and we were hoping to hit the lake Saturday or Sunday morning for a few hours. We have a couple of boats, do a lot of fishing elsewhere so I don't think we'll have a hard time figuring anything out, but every lake has its quirks. Anyone have any pointers that they would be willing to give out? PM if you don't want the world to know, I understand.  :hello:

Polar Bear Bait Co. Eggs soaked in Pautzke's nectar and power bait scent.  Just sayin'.   ;)

I gave up on the opener crowds years ago, but fish it latter in the season and have had good luck with leaded line and frog pattern baby hotshots.  Get there around Thursday if you want to camp.

Just about anything works at mineral, it will be crowded opening day, very crowded at the boat launch. You can troll, fish by the docks or I like to find where streams come into the lake at anchor there. But if my memory serves correct you can catch fish almost anywhere, there are some logs to look out for if you go deep as far as snags go. Have fun

We tend to troll the most of the time, but may be doing some drowning some bait this year. I'm sure it will be crazy crazy out there. Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I appreciate it.

The hardest thing to get done in Mineral is getting your boat in the water, if you like serious crowds it's the lake for you.  If not I'd drive 30 minutes to Riffe Lake and catch some nice silvers or Small Mouth.

Be ready to be shot if you try to troll on opening morning.

You troll no problem.  The lake is easy.  The bar is a little too crowded for trolling.  :chuckle:

Troll the southeast side, no weight with a green frog pattern dressed Mepps in size 1,2 ,3. Slow troll with zig zag pattern. Theirs a point jutting out on that side. Look at google satellite view and you will see what im talking about. I also do boat hoeing when available. Seems like anything greenish or chartreuse works in those lakes first of the season. Ohop.Silver. Rapjohn ect. Have fun. Take a flyrod and troll some early pattern buggs ( blacks, greens, small) also, just put a micro spinning reel on instead of fly reel if you want, makes for some great fun on light action. Thats old school stuff right there, but then I am older.Don"t get your nose bent out of shape on Mineral, its just fishing. (Combat Fishing)

I havn't fished the opening in a few years at this lake, but i have to admit, the trollers were a valuable resouce for entertainment, dragging lines a 100 ft behind thier boat and crossing eachother and even some bottom fishers. i miss the yelling and threats, lol. i remember one time, a troller dragged over a few lines from bait fishers, the crazy hillbilly bait fishin, challenged the guy to a fight, and jumped in the water and swam after the boat in an attempt to board it...and he almost did! .i really miss those days...the lake should have a PG13 rating atleast, young kids will learn and see alot.

Good stuff! I'm always up for a good round of people watching. Being as this is a bachelor party, we'll probably spend a fair amount of time anchored drinking beer and soaking power bait. It should be entertaining. I'm looking forward to this more and more the more I hear about all the chaos and dumb people!
