Title: Antelope in the Horse Heaven Hills

Where did they come from? There used to be a herd around Manastash Ridge, years ago. Wasn't this herd put down because of some disease?? I could be wrong about that.

Did this herd come down from Yakima, or are there antelope in Oregon, and they came across the river? Does anybody know?

Post by: Elkstuffer on April 10, 2013, 02:23:17 PM: The Central Washington Chapter of SCI in conjunction with the Yakama tribe captured and released 99 pronghorn from the Winnemucca Nevada area 2+ years ago. They had originally planned on releasing them deeper into the rez west of Hwy 97 but bad roads made them release them on the east side closer to Satus Creek. Since then they've been spotted east around West Richland and south toward Patterson. It's pretty cool to see them here in Washington. I believe they were going to attempt another transplant this winter but lack of snow in Nevada prevented it from happening. Hopefully next year.

They have tried releasing more. But when antelope are captured there temperature goes up a lot. So they have to have temperatures low enough both in Nevada and here a the same time and this haven't happened the last couple years.
