Title: turkey opener weather

We should warm up into 50's about Tuesday.

So I am going to wait a week.

I sure wish I listened better when talking to other hunters. One guy went up to a house with no tresspassing and no hunting signs in the front yard, but the landowner was outside. So the guy points at a big gobbler in the back yard and asks if he can shoot it. The landowner says yes and be quick about it.
He was quick and the shot the gobbler, grabbed him and was gone.

Post by: Ridgeratt on April 14, 2013, 06:10:38 PM: This last weekend I was in Cusick for the DU Banquet and never saw a bird anywhere when I drove up on Saturday. Then this morning I had to drive to the Pack river and left at around 7 only saw 2 hens in the town of Priest River. Other than that there was nothing!! Not a bird in any opening's along the green field up or back and didn't see any tucked along the woods either.

Not trying to be a dark cloud just saying that in the amount of miles we drove in the last 2 days I should have seen a couple.

Only saw 5 deer total this morning and didn't have any run across the road last nite in the dark as well.

Cuts down on competition on public ground,plus learn more about what the birds do in crap weather. So like crazy and had one that really wanted to work. So they'r gettin' after so so am I.

I have never missed opening morning of turkey season since I was 8 yrs old ...a long time ago :chuckle: but the last 2 years I have past on opening day and it has been nicer weather - more ticks :chuckle: but alot more birds wanting to play the game .... Maybe it is old age for me now ..not that I am that old but I sure do not get as excited as I did years ago .... :tup:

Plus by April 15th I'm so in need of an escape from work,concrete living and kids. Hell I'd go during a tornado probably. Plus some of the fun is seeing if our calling is still good enough to call the hens in. Still got that ability for sure. Now to master the elusive calling in a hung up tom.

Yep that's my plan. Heading over in May.

Trav - I'm 62 now and I'm still climbing the mountains, but instead of running up the hills like I did when I was young and a lot thinner, it just takes me more time and effort. The results are still priceless. :tup:
