Title: Stupid Rookies lol
Post by: cliffordingles on April 17, 2013, 08:24:01 AM
Hey everyone,

So, I'm the stupid rookie here! This is my first year turkey hunting. I'm Active Duty Army so I dont get much time to hunt let alone hit the Eastern side.

All I have seen in the woods is one Grouse so far. I've been told by some friends of friends to try certain areas for Turkeys here on the West side. I live in Galvin which is right between GMU 667 and 501.

I've been looking up high with no luck, should I try low in the valley's? Any input would be great! And to be clear I'm not trying to ask people where to go just trying to get some Veteran help. Thank's for any input!

Best place to find turkeys around Galvin is the Safeway store on Harrison ave. Sorry! The birds local are few and far between. I have found the biggest populations of turks on the west side down by Kalama. TAlk to the folks at Bob's sports down in Longview

Cliff, I think you need to be very familiar with flocks on the west side to have any success. If you read through the turkey area in this site you will see that the consensus is that your best chances are the NE corner of the state. North of Spokane to the Canadian border and from the Idaho border as far as Republic. Look at the WDFW turkey pamphlet and see where the vast majority of turks are shot...

Thank's for all the reply's.

I know there are Turkey's in my area, And I'm sure they are few and far between. The problem is I'm new to this. I know the area very well but finding these dang ghost's are like searching for Bigfoot himself lol.

What is thier primary food source this time of year? What kind of of timber do they perfer?

I know It's a long shot but I'm still going to try to get one since i can't make the trip to anywhere further.
