Yawn........... :cmp1:
My brother and i left friday after work for our third and final scouting trip to RIMROCK GMU.
(My dad, brother and I have ANY BULL TAGS for OCT-20th--Nov 2nd)
Set up camp in the dark at "2am" on sat morning after cruising the roads. Rode quads most of the day Saturday on some pretty nasty jeep trails to see some good country. We were very productive and covered alot of ground and "GREAT" areas. Sunday we hit snow at about 6500 feet. Got about 3 inches over night. Saw some "animals", hiked our asses off and got home this morning at 3am. I am barely staying awake at work and cant wait to crash when i get home tonight. I will post some pics tonight when i get home and unpack.
Next weekend we are off to 335 to our family Deer camp then we are outta here on the 17th for our 2 week bull hunt. :IBCOOL:
I think i will know the entire GMU by the end of this hunting season. I really am starting to love this country but its not an easy hunt by any means.
have a good week guys and stay tuned for pics from this weekend.

Crusing roads, riding Quads, 3 scouting trips, shooting hp rifles. now all you need is flannel.

Thats alot of work for an area, you'll be lucky to elk hunt once every 5 years. You better score big.

Do i sense some jealousy guys.. :chuckle: :chuckle:
we are just makin sure we do our homework.
having never been in this area, we just wanted to respect these great tags and try our damndest to fill them.
we are doing everything we can to improve our chances.
oh and i forgot to add that in the 3 trips over there we have hiked over 10 miles.
I prefer to hike instead of driving or quadding but it is necesarry sometimes, come on guys you know this.
dont be butt hurt that i am so pationate about this tag, this is not "only" about getting a big boy, but more so it has been a time with my dad and brother that i cherrish already and will forever.
:IBCOOL: :hello: :chuckle: :chuckle:

i have pondered this question many times. Well.............Maybe miss some DUCKS, flush some Pheasants, lose some Fish, stalk some Girls....i like to dabble in all of those. ha ha

Here are a few pics from this weekends scout.
what a fun time in the woods with my bro.
so many memories already.

Good looking spots, Our first bull tag we had i think we made 5 or 6 trips over there scouting. diesel was 2 bucks a gallon back then though. looks like your getting it figured out.
-
Thats some good looking country. i hope all those tags get punched.
-
Good luck on your hunt! I hope you guys pull down some good bulls and have a great trip! Great looking country!
-
Thanks guys we ar pretty stoked.
I am really trying not to psyche myself out to much.
If it happens it happens, if it doesnt we will get em next time.
To put things in perspective, I wasnt sure if i mentioned this but i talked my brother into getting his hunt ed stuff in february so this will be his first hunt, my dad has always been a man of the outdoors, but up until he retired in Janruary, 37 years with PSE as a lineman, he has just not had the time to go hunting like he used to when he took my brothers and i up to elk heights back in the 80's-early 90's.
so he hasnt hunted in a while either.
This will be my 3rd real solid year of my obsession and my first big bull attempt of course.
anyways thanks for the encouragment and we know one thing for sure, there will be many memories from this hunt.
:hello:
ps. BUT GOD I WOULD LOVE TO WHACK A MASHER!!!! :bash:

It looks like you were in the burn up by the short and dirty. Thats a good area. Have you taken that same trail to right below the rimrock on the s and dirty? Also look on the map and check out the area by Cirque Lk. I hope all of your hard work will bring you great rewards. Good Luck.

I hope you guys can find some nice ones, it looks like you have found out where they are hanging out. 8)
