I got a turkey with my home build flintlock last week, (in turkey section. I have not been able to put a picture on). I have used a muzzle loader to kill most of my turkeys for a little over 10 years, most with the flint. I have used a CVA double and a TC New Englander. I use 90 grain of 2ff and 100 grain by volume of either #6 or #5 shot, some times mix both. I have only lost one turkey and that was with the New Englander. It some times shoots a inconsistent pattern, need a tighter choke for it. The other two are cylinder bore. Most of the birds have been under 25 yards, as close as 8 steps and on one occasion 35 yards. I seldom use the cartridge gun, except either a old gun of my dads and my granddads old longtom.

:) Nice Job Hang fire ! well its good to hear other folks use these for more then just clay bird shooting. My buddy and i both went out last week and took the trade guns out to give them a workout had a blast and whale of a time. Two nice toms in about 35 to 40 yards away and when the smoke cleared we both had birds on the ground ! congrats on your luck as well and keep after them Birds know we will

With a patched roundball (.69) and 90 grain 2ff, The same gun does a good job on a deer. I shot a white tail doe a couple years ago. She turned just as I shot so the ball entered hip and exited opposite side shoulder. Meat damage not to extensive, just a hole clear through. I had put on a sawed flint and it did not spark consistently, slow ignition. I now use napped flints from Track of the Wolf, much faster.

:yeah: we use the B/P guns as our Primary weapons doing all our hunting just dont seem to much like fun when we use them modern guns any more
