If you are near the burrow they're using (usually an old badger dig) go over to it and kind of dig around a bit in a month or so-they protect their chicks by making a sound that duplicates a nest of rattle snakes When I was a kid, we used to go dig them and and keep them as pets for a bit then turn them loose.  Just make sure it's the actual burrow they're using and not really a snake nest. :chuckle:  Nice pic's-they are a pretty cool little bird.

Oh this is awesome I love the pics of the dirt dwelling owls they crack me up and its just plain cool to see them around.

You dug up burrowing owl nests and kept chicks as pets? :o

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE    OMG I want one for a pet...squeeeee the chicks are so darn cute..... I cannot stand it......and yet to think one day soon those cute fuzzy owlets will eat the cute fuzzy bunny in the great circle of food

..sorry I love owls and I am a girl so totally appropriate for me to freak out like one :chuckle: :chuckle:

That pic you posted back in June 2013 of the babies is great! The one in the back look's like the Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand! :chuckle: I've found a few of these guy's out by Down's Lake. Didn't ever show anyone where as they are threatened.
