Title: Lock 'em up!
Post by: billythekidrock on May 04, 2013, 07:48:29 PM
Lock up your cams.
Cables and locks do no good if you don’t use them properly.
Here is how I found mine today. Apparently I was so intent on keeping it hidden that I forgot lock it properly.  :bash:

The other end was under some moss on the backside of the tree.  :bash:

It was still there and no human sign was around, but this bear took an interest in it. Luckily it didn't bust the strap.

Cool video!

And as for locking them up, I don't even have any lock boxes. Although I do have two Python cables for locking up my Primos cams. So far been pretty lucky- have only lost a $40 Tasco.

At almost $300 I want them to work for this one.

Has anyone figured out why bears love (or hate) trail cams so much?

Bears are extremely curious.

If I dress up as a giant trailcam and walk the Monroe roads, is that baiting??   :chuckle:

Supposedly, bears can smell and are attracted to the batteries.  :dunno:

Funny post and cool video.

I camo up my cameras as well.    I've been known to glue twigs and branches to the camera body......

I've still had some of those found.  I guess when the flash goes off it might give it away?    :yike:

Anyway, I've had a few stolen the past years so I understand your desire to secure them....

Thanks for sharing.

Dan

I've kinda wondered about that over the years. There have been a few times I have found car batteries way out in the woods that were chewed up real bad obviously from bear. I know bears are kinda like coyotes in that they will chew on and sometimes eat anything that is just out of the ordinary in the woods or smells different considering what I have seen in their poop over the years (rubber bands, plastic, carpet).

Used to wonder why people went to all the hassle of locking up their cameras.  Well when you go to check it and its gone...I no longer wonder.  Part of the pain is having to replace the camera $ but the big hurt is not knowing what you had on the chip.
