I am curious as to what your position might be toward a proposal similar to what is described below:
Vertical Driver’s License / ID issued to anyone who warrants a more detailed look when making a transaction (i.e. underage, felons etc.)
All those who have lawfully been deemed unable to own a firearm (i.e. felons, perhaps anyone convicted of a violent crime or using a weapon) should have an easily identifiable stamp on their vertical ID that indicates they should not be allowed to purchase firearms or ammunition.
This puts the burden on the criminals, while eliminating the need for firearm registration and creating a much more economical way to perform universal background checks. This would enable the vast majority of responsible gun owners to police their own and make informed decisions as to whom they should conduct private business with.
