Im looking for an inexpensive way to make a tank for rust bluing some shotgun barrels. Im not planning on doing caustic, so really all it needs to be able to do is boil water.
-
I rust blued my muzzleloader barrel using Laural Mtn. Forge browning solution, boiled water on my camp stove, and used a piece of ABS drain pipe with a cap for the tank. It worked fine without boiling in the tank. Just cut a piece of pipe a few inches longer than the barrel, cap one end, then stand it up and put the barrel in. Pour in the boiling water and pull it out when it cools. Worked great.

They are only about $50 to buy new. Fill it with stump remover and make sure your only insert DRY parts.

please elaborate... Im just starting to scratch the surface on all this.
I also was wondering how you keep the bores from rusting during this entire process?
-
Grease the bore well and then plug the openings.
