Another Skagit Spring bear for me. But..this is by far my biggest yet. I shot this descent boar this morning around 11:00. I started walking up this short spur road when I heard something breakin brush next to me about 20 yards or so. I waited him out, thinking it was probably a deer, but the wind was right...so I decided to wait. I kept hearing him come closer and closer....thinking to myself....this guy is gonna come out right on top of me at 5 yards. I was also telling myself, I should have gone back into the house this morning to grab the damn pistol. So after about 30 minutes of hearing him come closer, he finally stepped out on the road, he looked at me, and I looked at him. He was a good bear and I knew this was a shooter. He started to move a little faster, so I quickly put a bullet in his lungs at 30 yards with the .300 A-bolt. It dropped him in his tracks. I was amazed to see how big his head was when I got there. Thankfully, my buddy and his dad showed up to help me load him up. Hanging weight at the butcher was 158 lbs. 50 lbs of cape/head, and im guessing 20 lbs of guts. So he probably went 230ish or so. I also did a half ass measure job of the skull. Looks like it will be around 19-20" This bear is gonna be a 3/4 mount. Cant wait. Welp, time for Fall bear now I guess!!

Most of your big meat heads will look like that. Even without so much hair. Another sign he's a good mature boar!
All these dang fine looking spring bear going down should make spring 2013 awful good for you taxidermists! These big boars are so nicely dressed it would be a shame not to get them mounted!
-
Brimm showed me that pic earlier today at work...........very, very nice bear T.
-
Nice job. Bet that 30 minutes you waited felt like an eternity.

Yeah, nothing like waiting 30 minutes and not knowing what's coming up in front of your face. Of course, that's why I love hunting. Its all about the memories and the extreme adrenaline rush.
-
Nice looking bear, congrats.
-
good bear right there would have been hard to pass up! congrats
-
Sweeet ...

Congrats on a great lookin bear! His teeth look really nice, I wonder if he is a relatively young bear with good genetics! Nice melon, that's for sure!
-
Wow congrats. Sounds like a fun hunt. That country you're hunting looks pretty nice - not too brushy - for the wet side. Thanks for the great trip story & pic!
-
congrats!!!!!!!!
-
Awesome, boy some SUPER nice bears being taken this year. Congrats!
-
 Great story and nice bear. Congrats
-
Awesome bear  one year I might draw a spring bear tag...
-
Great bear MAGhunter. The only thing that could have made the hunt more exciting is to have that bear run into thick chest-high brush and you have to go look for it. :yike:
The only thing better than a great bear is a great bear on the road.
-
Awesome Bear!!!!!!!
-
congrats!!
-
I think he's larger than you believe. He's got a super wide head so that's gonna get it up there in score. Let us know when you get it measured as I see a 21" bear, or at least close to that.
-
21"? Gadzooks!
I hope it is! But, I seriously doubt it.
Sure don't come much prettier than that. I have to keep coming back to look at it again and again and again.
-
Great bear!!!
-
Isn't anything over 20 a giant :dunno:
-
Isn't anything over 20 a giant :dunno:
Over 20" = Giant
Over 21" = Freakin' Giant Monster
-
That's what I thought.

It will go over 20.
-
I'm thinking just about right at it or just shy. Be pleasantly surprised if it's much more.
Compare to green score 20 1/4" http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,124373.0.html (http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,124373.0.html)

Nice pumpkin head there. I would bet right around 20", the noggin on a 21" bear is unreal. You are cutting yourself short on the hide and guts though. Unless he was very short and squatty you will get more than 50# of hide and head, and way more than 20# of guts. I'd bet he was closer to 300# than you think. Great bear though and what a beautiful hide! Congrats!
-
Yeah ..I would day somewhere around 19 6/8 :chuckle: :chuckle:  He is a nice one ...Nice hide !
-
Great looking bear! Guess on age?
-
Few battle scars and nice teeth. I'd guess he is still a youngster of the giant stud variety.
-
toad for sure. congrats on a great bear.
-
Nicely done!!
-
I'm not sure who' more excited for the score, you guys or me. I'm pretty damn excited to find out though. I have to wait a little while to get it to my favorite taxi though. Hopefully sooner than later. I would be stoked if it is between 20 and 21.
-
Rad, That bear I got last year on Aug 4 in the Capitol Forest didn't look that big to me but it came in at 21 5/16" and registered in the NW Big Game books. Both those bears look fairly close in size although the trophy pics they took are much better. Any way you look at it those 2 are monsters and hard to come by east or west!

21 5/16" that's giant Alien Bigfoot's 2nd cousin big! I don't remember seeing your bear pics. I'll try to do a search. Definitely  east or west fantastic bear. And at least three of them so far on here. I leave Sunday or Monday for Aladdin. These guys have set the bar too dang high. Not sure I can begin to compete.
-
Eli346 - I found the pics of your bear. You're right, it doesn't look that big. Pretty amazing stuff. I would have agreed with your first guess of 19". What a freak! That's a good thing, right?
-
Yea, definitely. The Skagit and eastside bear both should do really well!
-
Waiting is hard for me. Could almost hear the brush cracking & the thumping in your chest
-
Nice bear!!
-
Very nice.
-
Great bear!
-
Very nice Torei!! Congrats
-
Well I finally made it to the taxidermist. He green scored right at 20 6/16". I'm very happy with that :IBCOOL:
Lets hope I dont lose too much in the drying stage. Should be high 19's when all done. Good enough for washington books!!!
Oh yeah, my 3/4 mount with habitat is gonna be sweet. One of a kind custom!!! Cant wait.
-
Very cool! My biggest went 20 7/8". Never did or will enter it though. Anything in the 20"+ range in W. WA is a great bear.
-
Dang nice! Congrats.
-
Sweet, that's a real toad! Can't wait to see the 3/4 mount.
-
I think you'll be surprised by his score after the 60 day drying period. I don't think they lose that much so he should stay above 20". Good job, great story, and a super bear. Your trophy shots are so much better than mine I'm jealous! We just couldn't seem to move my bear around much on that hillside to really take any pics like yours that really do it justice.
-
I was fortunate that mine fell over dead in the middle of the road. Makes it easy for great pics and easy pack out!!
-
Congrats guys, I'm back in state in a week, looking forward to at least the last two days....
