Title: House Fly MADNESS 1
Post by: lucky33 on May 09, 2013, 08:32:35 AM
The flies were getting out of control in the house, so I took it upon myself to get them out. I connected with the booner after missing two aerial shots, finally I got a lock on him and took him down with a single shot from my nerf slingshot at about 3 yrds. It was a steep quartering toward shot, and Id guess he was going about 8 fps.  Good practice for bowhunting pheasants next year.  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Nice fly but there is no way that thing makes book. Look at the legs in relationship to the wings, Too big. Small legs = book housefly.  :bash:

Not even close to being a booner, that thing is a dink, pisscutter, milk on its lips fly......
The common house fly averages 8-12mm in length and the us dime is 17.9mm in diameter and that thing is nowhere near as long as the dime is, stop long arming that thing.
Also if you really want a booner house fly you need to focus on the females as they are slightly larger than the males (making you a doe killer!!!!!) and have a much larger space between their red compound eyes.

dont forget that fly hunting is leagal with cats. mine have windowed a few in the past & knocked a few down while in flight. might also set up a bait site to up your odds at a trophy.
i dont see any thing in the regs prohibiting the use of bait or cats.

Maybe there needs to be a biggest fly contest with rules set out on baiting or not? Inside house or outside?  Could be fun for those bowhunters trying to maintain their accuracy and precision in the off season.

when i broke my leg i had to stay on the couch for 2 weeks straight and then they did surgery but anyways a friend bought me a sweet blowgun with tons of sweet darts, they even had broadheads, well after a 100 shots or so i stuck a fly from about 8 to 10 feet, also the wife was kinda pissed about all the little holes in the wall and of course the few strays that stuck in the wall out of reach.... but hey it was a blast.... congrats on a fine kill....i agree we should have an off the wall kill thread, ya know for mice, turbo spiders, big flys and the monster mole that you blow up wuth the 12 gauge in the front yard

as far as the fly thing goes, you need to have the hand to wing category to include ninja stuff & the basic swatter technique. might also add a map category. the wife nailed one that was "huge" just last night using nothing more than my umitilla NF map. she was so proud to show me the splat on the wall & i cringed at the sight on the back of my map. be no measuring of that one.

Today I heard about a fly-shotgun you load with salt.  He was shooting Carpenter Ants when it broke,so he emailed the manufacturer and they said there was a defect in the first ones, so they're sending him a new one for free!  Sounds like fun!  He said there was a website, but I can't recall what it is...

I once was sitting with my bow in an outbuilding at my parents ranch. A deer mouse ran across the far side of the room and I staked him to the wall with a rather large 3 blade broadhead.  One of my most memorable bow kills

The carpenter ants have been terrible on the east side this year. I cant remember there being so many of them. I might have to take the Nerf slingshot in search of ''Big Louie'' 8)

If I see the guy again today I'll write down the website, and get more particulars.  from what he said, you have to "reload" the ammo for it...with salt!

OK, I corralled the guy and he said to just Google "Bug A Salt" and that will take you to the website.  He even did it on his Smart Phone, and played the video of a fly getting shot off a plate of jello.  You can order them online if that is your wish.  Looks like a cool gun, and no shortage of targets.  Now Homeland Security will start buying up all the salt....  :chuckle:

SCORE ONE FOR THE CAT!! just moments ago the wife & i came in & sat on the couch. our killer main coon cat named scruff came to my feet for a pet & at that moment a monster fly buzzed my head, sounded like a 747 jet. up goes the cat & after an intense aerial battle that encompassed the entire living room scruff landed a nasty rt paw that downed the beast. there was no time for picts, sorry, cause as soon as the giant hit the ground-GULP- & it was gone. wow it happened so fast.

Yes. Plus WDFW cant manage predators so venus fly traps will just destroy the population and you can say goodby to fly hunting!

The nice part about it is that it doesn't damage anything but the fly.  I shot a big fly off the blinds on my picture window, and only got the fly.  I told one of the managers at a local restaraunt about them yesterday, and he went right into the office and got on the Bug-A-Salt website.  It's been cool and rainy the past few days, and not many flies out---yet!  :chuckle:

those old school swatters are wear its at. like the trad bow hunters. no need to get those new gadgets. cats are cool if you can afford to run them. but get one of the old yellow swatters with the hole in for the ultimate experience.
used to love to watch the wife when we were young chase around the trailer armed with nothing but a swatter. better than a pole dance & more productive. same results. god I miss those old days.

Houseflies are not a game species, nor are they on the "Endangered" or "Protected" lists.  They evidently fall under the "Unclassified Wildlife" category, and like Starlings and House Sparrows, you can kill all you want, any time you want...  :chuckle:
