Title: Any nice bull sightings in the Observatory area?
Post by: TheKid#10 on October 09, 2008, 08:46:11 AM
Just wondering if any archers, muzzleloaders or deer scouters have run across any good numbers of elk or seen some nice bulls? Dad has the Observatory any bull modern tag and I need to hook him up. My scouting efforts so far have been poor. Thanks for any help.

The observatory unit is great depending on weather. It takes up several units and the umptaneum is great if weather falls as elk move down toward feeding stations. Often a nice bull take cows down low early. Right now there is a big bull in the elk heights area with 30 cows. He took them down towards safe ground early. This is protected or fed land.  I killed a great bull Oct 2 several years back muzz. Had hot days and cold nights. For Rifle I would target high elevations far up forest service roads accessed above manashtash. But there will be bulls headed down early but this will be more spotty. My buddy had a muzz tag and settled for a small bull with day time highs of 80+.  I sent you my cell number so call me tomorrow. I lived in ellensburg for years and shed hunted before it was popular, 1992 :)  My dad drew a Dayton bull tag so I am trying to get help or info on this one. Definately not my known area. Did some scouting but this is rough country.

I cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!! for Friday. My big bull tag starts tomorrow but I only can take a week off (almost impossible as a teacher) so I decided to wait for the second week of the season. I plan on hiking in off the roads anyway. I'm hoping for a little weather. If anyone has info they would like to send me please do. Always up for new tips and or just encouragement. Man I will be worthless this week at work... :chuckle:

Rougheye, I plan on making a trip or 2 up there late archery, Maybe you could point me in a good direction for a cow? I usually wait for snow to fly but the only animals I see are in the Heart-K (safety zone) I have seen some good sign on Elk Heights Road, but too close to fenceline of private property to do me any good.
