I did that with a chukar years ago. Had a client out working with his dog and the dog pushed the bird out. I was going right at the dog and as the chukar got there, stuck out my hand, snagged it and stuck it in a pocket of my bird vest. Have no idea how that happen but that client went home thinking I could do that on purpose. I saw no reason to ruin his little dream!

lol  :chuckle:

train with pen raised birds long enough and you will see all kinds of shenanigans from them. I have seen a couple land on people's backs or heads, more than a few have landed on trucks - any where that looks like a safe place to hide from the dog, since they don't often view humans as predators.

If you ever want to see bird hunters turn on each other, watch what happens when guys who compete in American Field sponsored events talk about competing and training on wild birds versus the NSTRA folks who use pen raised fowl. It becomes a fricken holy war I tell ya.

I saw something close to that once.

Years ago on Ft. Lewis there was an open gun dog field trial where a handler accidently drove a chucker back at the gunner. The chucker flushed right at the gunner who swatted the bird down with the stock of his shotgun. The stunned bird then reflushed in the right direction. When it hit about 30 yards it was promptly shot. The whole gallery accused the shooter of bird brutality! With a snicker of course...
