I made a trip to the Blues for a short bear hunt last weekend. The first day I spotted 5 different bears. One stayed out long enough to allow a stalk opportunity. The distance was closed from 1500 yards to a mere 65 yards after a 1 1/2 hr canyon crossing adventure. Sadly the stalk ended in a fast furry escape. The next 5 sightings were short lived. The bears would only expose themselves for 5-10 minutes. So every time a stalk attempt was made the bears would vanish before the stalk even started.
Here's a few photos from the trip. The big cinnamon only exposed himself for about 5 minutes. I was able to get some decent photos through the spotter though. Hopefully I can make it back before the season ends.
Even without filling a tag, a great time was still had with a good hunting buddy. Lots of bears were seen and gobbles were heard.

love the look of that cinnamon....nice job and good luck finding a brute

The boar in this pic was the lucky guy that escaped becoming a rug.

Those are some good looking bears.

Dang. Do they have any black black bears down there??

He left out the reason that the bear ran off very much alive!!!! I got bear fever bad!!!!!!!!! :chuckle: Because of the roll of the ridge I never saw him until we were both in the wide open very close together. When I took a knee to shoot I could only see the top 1/3 of his back so I had to stand up and just flat yanked the shot. I cryed a little not gonna lie. It was a big ass canyon and a really depressing hike back down and up again. I swear I am a pretty good shot! :chuckle:

At least Dan got the miss on camera! :bash:

Great color in them thar hills. :chuckle:

Yes, it is great that the whole scenario was caught on film. From my viewpoint it looked like Karl was trying to get close enough to kill the bear with his knife. Lol

Good luck guys. Hopefully, you get a bear rug over Memorial weekend.

Good luck. It will happen for you.

I think that blond sow would have been in trouble if she was near my gun.

Well, I'm happy and sad to announce that a fellow hunt-wa member killed big red the other day. Hopefully he will post a thread with pics here soon. It is said that the skull was over 19". Congrats.
