Title: Pigeon trapping
Post by: SnowDog on May 16, 2013, 10:09:22 PM
Need to get my hands on some pigeons to start training my new pup. Thinking about getting a pigeon trap and doing some door knocking at dairy farms. Has anyone had any experience trapping pigeons? Any advice, would be great.

Cheers!

Dairy barn trapping is not very fruitful, there is too much free feed around for a trap to be effective,a drop net is more productive,as well as flashlights and a net.I never got a single bird in a trap at a dairy,I got more than enough with a flashlight and a net.Dairy guys are kind of particular about rummaging around through the barn in the darkness, potential stress on the cows.My uncles have a feedlot barn so permission was never an issue.

:yeah: It is fun to catch them in the dark with a flashlight. We don't use nets, usually just grab them bare handed.

I ended up deciding to build a small coop in the back yard. Makes sense to raise my own. I'm too lazy to go out ad catch them. Rather just have the kids raise them for me :)

Thanks for all the advice!
