Title: newbie hunter needs all the help he can get
Post by: sag on October 09, 2008, 07:53:48 PM
Hi guys, I'm a brand new hunter and chose to chase elk with a bow have been checking out the clearwater 615 area for the last few weeks and unless otherwise advised I'll be hunting the late archery elk and deer season there. I'm accurate to 40yds on the range and in pretty good shape and very comfortable in the back country (although I've never tried to travel quietly until recently)  any tips on the area, hunting the area with a bow, or anything you think a new hunter with this situation should know would be very appreciated.

thanks in advance

stefan

Tacoma Creek. It is steep and thick but they are in there. Lot's of bears too.

No offense, but being a new hunter and wanting to "chase elk with a bow" sounds a bit unethical to me.  I hope you are experienced shooter and have taken the appropriate measures to get smart about shot placement, anatomy, and how to go about tracking/finding an elk.  Not to mention having a plan to properly care for it in the field if you are successful.

Not trying to come down on you, but knowing nothing else other than your post, I am concerned.  It's best to have a good mentor.  I'll gladly volunteer if you need some help, insruction, guidance, etc.

All the best!
Tom
