Ok I need help picking my weapon this year. Archery or muzzleloader.
Here's the data needed to help me choose.
I figure, the woods will be locked down for early archery and muzzleloader elk seasons. SO I am not even going to think about hunting. I will be killing salmon all early seasons to get my egg stock built up for winter runs and springers.
So LATE HUNT ONLY, archery or muzzleloader. My TWO Units of choice are Mossyrock for muzzleloader OR Winston for archery. Target is cows.
With no scouting at all. Which would you choose.
PS. I did hunt 2 days in Winston last season and seen elk. And seen 2 shot. So I have a decent idea there.

Not a lot of public access in Mossyrock; what is there gets hit pretty hard late season.
-
forget fishing and hunt. That's my take.

:yeah:

Liar, you will be thinking about hunting! The woods will be open for early ml season. How can you pass that up?
-
I would definitely be hunting early season. especially early muzzleloader. Its right in the middle of the rut.
-
I'm not worried about hunting early season. On the off chance the woods are open, I can walk 150yds from my porch and chance early elk in the rut. With either weapon
I put all my eggs in that basket for 2 seasons in a row and get screwed big time by closed down land.
This year. Late season is my focus.

Sounds like you already chose the late season...might as well pick your own weapon!
-
I'm 100% set on focussing on late season. That's not the issue.
I was hoping people who hunt those areas could chime in with their opinions on the units. Which would be the better choice, with one being archery and one being muzzy.
-
I think you would have a better chance with muzzy in the late season.
-
Honestly the only time ur wep has a factor is if ur trying to hunt the rut.... Not late season
-
Thinking more about it, you should probably choose whatever weapon you are more proficient with.

I have hunted the Mossyrock - several years ago and that's what I found. Probably info on here if you search.
Tons of info here on Winston late archery if you do a search. More land to hunt. More elk. More people, but spread out more than Mossy.
Really, hard to say which you would prefer.Could definately kill an elk in either. I agree I'd go with the weapon I am most proficient with.

Archery is your choice if you want to get into elk for the late season, with more land to hunt, more elk to see, more hunters but bigger unit so you'll have more of a chance to get away!

muzzle loader is the way to go haven't had any bad luck on the west side during late season in the past few years a bet wet but just keep your powder dry and you will do fine

what is the advantage to muzzloader late season? the only advantage i see is early season because of the rut perhaps... Archery season is longer though take that into consideration since you are not considering the early hunt.... I would go archery just because its a longer season...
