Got back last night, had a great hunt.
I had the great opportunity to hunt Roosevelt elk during the rut, and all I have to say is we got plenty of action. I ended up shooting a 5 x5 on day 8. My time was running out, and the weather was turning bad.
I got a decent look at 5 different mature bulls, and waited for the king. I ended up with a nice bull with some good fat on him, so I feel blessed to have the hunt end this way.
We shot this bull 3 miles. There were 2 big creeks to cross, and lots of blowdown to cross. The 2 of us boned him out, and got it done in 3 trips.
Sorry for the poor picks. I ended up leaving my camera in the truck ! :bash:
Thanks all, especially Willie for all the help and encouragement.

Bryan, You did all the work. You made the calls, checked with past permit holders and packed out a bull. Congrats to you. I only wish I had been able to make it up and visit.

Thanks guys,
If I never get another opportunity to hunt elk in the first week of October, I can feel blessed that I was fortunate enough to do it once. It was mind blowing hearing the elk bugle, the cows talk, and chase the herd bull until my knees about buckled ! :chuckle:
Kirk:
Best of luck on your hunt. Looking forward to your story!

Blessed,
This bull came sneaking into a cow call. When I saw him, he was raking a small jack fir, looking for some action. All I could see was his head, part of his back, and a couple of hooves . :chuckle:
I slowly raised my 270, and shot him right thru his spine when he lowered his head at about 100 yards. Pretty much dropped him in his tracks. Good thing too. If he would has took off down in the hell hole, it would have added some serious pack time.
Congrats on your past rosies with a bow. Pretty impressive indeed!
