Title: Turkeys and Coulee city?
Post by: Lcl 66 Tinner on May 22, 2013, 06:59:55 PM
We will be going to Sun Lakes resort on Banks lakes and I might be able to sneak out in the morning for a hunt. I've only hunted the Rice area and klickitat areas. Are there turkeys around there? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Plenty of turkey vultures but I think you'd be hard pressed to find any gobblers around there. Better bet to fish hard!   :twocents:

Never seen a turkey there.  Then again I heard that someone saw a turkey once in Vantage on the bridge!

Mostly sagebrush country not a lot of turkeys unless you travel NE from Coulee City and hunt parts of Lincoln County.

Thanks for the info, I did a search on the site and came up with nothing. I'd be pushing my luck if I was gone for more than a few hrs on a family/ birthday camping trip.

Well they are in there alright. Have heard em gobble above Coulee playland campground, in scattered patches of trees along rufus woods, and northrup canyon. Seen birds in marlin too. Having that said, those areas pretty much have no public access or no hunting allowed. Bird populations are still small anyway and need time to grow.

As Yelp said, better off heading over towards Lincoln County.  Sun Lakes Resort on Park Lake (Banks Lake is about 6 miles north - south end is at Coulee City and then runs north).  The Ranger has said they get a few during the winter down by the horse stable and horseshoe pits, and they move back up the canyon towards Deep Lake and camp Delaney, but I've never seen or heard them myself.  I would also be extremely careful about knowing any regs for hunting state park land.
