Title: need some advice from the 3d gurus
Post by: earlmarne on May 22, 2013, 08:30:30 PM: well.im jumpin in with both feet.i got nuthin really to hunt besides yotes for awhile n i feel like shootin some 3d courses can only up my archery game.
so i went n grabbed up 3 gt 22 ultalight pros i had layin in the corner n turned my bow down to mid 50s n tuned my bow up to shoot them.
now today i go to sighting them in.my 20 to 30 yard gap is way too close.so i sighted my second pin to 40.
just wondering if anyone else does this?seems from what i hear most shots are within 50 yards on courses.im brand new to all this.my arrows are flying too fast for my taste,but i cant turn my limb bolts down anymore n am not wanting to build anymore arrows untill i destroy these last three.

Post by: Button Nubbs on May 22, 2013, 08:47:52 PM: Yardage judging is most important followed by accuracy imo. I really don't think your gonna be able to be pinpoint accurate with a 20 and 40 pin. Just get used to shooting the small gaps or get a slider site like an hha or get a dovetail extention for your site. My bow is shootin x-ringer hv's at 326, its fast which helps in yardage errors but I can also shoot it accurately.

Post by: BULLBLASTER on May 23, 2013, 12:45:51 PM: What weights tips are you using to get that fast at 50 lb? I'd try additional tip weight if you can to slow them down and increase foc. GT 22 are a .250 spine if I remember correctly? More tip weight would help with spine also.

i can see the benefit of shooting a single pin when you got arrows flyin along this fast.i got my huntin arrow built up now to 575 grains n flyin slow n true.its going to take some getting used to to shoot tight pin gaps.
the gt 22s are 300 spine n i am pullin 31 inches when my limb bolts are tightened down.i think havin em backed out put another half inch on it cuz i feel a touch over drawn.but my groups are looking great so i am not going to mess with my draw.

i decided to stop bn a sissy n just sighted it in.i appreciate all the advice.the pin gaps are not that bad.n i am starting to think i may have a longer draw than 31 inches.i know put a good amount on my draw backin the limb bolts out 6 turns.n i am pullin past my normal anchor.the combo of this new carter 2 shot n the longer draw n lighter pull is proving most effective.
i really feel like i am going to get a lot out of these shoots.n i am really contemplating getting some 60 lb limbs,or possibly buying another vendetta with 40 50 lb limbs.my arrows still smoke,even my 475 grainers.i think my 575 grain arrows are a little over kill for this light of a pull though.maybe i just need an elk rig n then an everything else rig

just have to get used to the pin gaps. Most people would kill to have that problem.

Post by: coachcw on May 24, 2013, 10:27:20 AM: a 20-30 pin works fine and then 40 and 50. takes alot of guess work out in the field and makes it easy to pin gap . I'd set it at 30 and hold two inches low at twenty that way you can bracket 20to 40 :tup:

Post by: 3dvapor on May 24, 2013, 10:38:38 AM: I swear by the slider hha with .010 pin size u can dial to exact yardage. They make a 2 pin fixed with a 3rd that's a floater that u can adjust out to longer yardages. This one might be on my bow this year elk hunting.

I hear ya.i will build some more soon but i just poured a lot of money into building this years huntin arrow n those 22s are not cheap.

Movable sites and long stabilizers are Freestyle. I agree w/Button on the sight pins. Some sights do not allow for their pins to get too close because of design. Others will allow pins to be almost touching. You might want to look at a better sight with a design that allows close pins for todays fast shooting bows.
